College Temptations

“Gifford cites the ‘overwhelming temptations of extracurricular college life’ as a reason some students flunk out.” considering the various “temptations” that keep you from concentrating on your schoolwork, what is the most tempting or “hazardous” one? Do you overcome or yield to it? How do you deal with it?

Additionally, the following are some guidelines of checking a narrative suggested by Lee Brandon, which you may use for your reference or as a checklist while you peer edit your partner’s paper.

  1. Situation. It is the background for the action. The situation may be describled only briefly, or it may even implied.
  2. Conflict. It is friction, such as problem in the surroundings, with another person(s), or within the individual. The conflict, which is at the heart of each story, produces struggle.
  3. Struggle. It is the manner of dealing with the conflict. The struggle adds action or engagement and generates the plot.
  4. Outcome. It is the result of the struggle.
  5. Meaning. It is the significance of the story, which may be deeply philosophical or simple, stated or implied.

    The reason made me concentrate on my study is that I want to improve my ability. I also want to learn some new things about different culture. Sometimes I want to totally relax and put all my school work away, but I still tell myself that study can help me improve my ability. I will try to do all my school work as soon as possible and try my best on every subject.

    College life is one of the most important periods of my life. I can learn what I wanna learn, and i’ll make it better than I was in the senior high school. In addition, I can learn new things if I’d like to , because I have more free time to learn; however, I have to control my free time is important. i’ll make efforts to everything as possible as I can.

    College is different from high school. I have much more time to do what I really want to do or where I want to go after I finish what I should do. For example, I will finish my homework before I go out with my friend. But sometimes those things are just more attractive than study. I was once didn’t give my homework to my teacher on time because that night I went to a dacne class. I got the lesson. Now, I go out only after I finish the study.

    To me, I think “extracurricular” such as school club, or part time job. But I didn’t join these.The bigger reason which is Computer and TV program. These two is more attractive. So even when the test coming, I will watching TV and play computer same as normal! However, I heard that someone in our class was join the club, lead them late or even jump the class.

    In college,you have to take reponsibilty for yourself.
    For example, you can choose the class you want to take. Every class you take gonna to influnence your future. You can choose to study or not to study, but you have to take the consequence. After all, once you are the college student, it means you’re no longer a child anymore.

    The temptations are club, love and free time. College life is freer than high school. We have plenty of free time during the break. And students love to do anything except study during the free time. So this makes students don’t want to study. The way to solve depends on students. If students want to enhance their ability and skills, they will study.

    Definitely independence. After going to college, I notice that I have more time to arrange my schedule myself and without parents’ allowances. I have more flexible time to arrange my classes, to play, to have fun with my fiends. First of all I couldn’t get use to it, but gradually, I notice that I can’t rely on my parents anymore. Actually, I do really enjoy arranging my leisure time very much.

    I think college life is an important part of my life because I have more free time, then U can choose wht I want to learn and do it well. Also, tp arrange your schedule is really important. You should use your time well so that you can fulfill your life skills or more knowledge.

    In my traditional thought, if someone didn’t enter a college, he or she would never find a good job in their life. Therefore, I think the college life is very important for me and I spend much more time than others to concentrate on my study. Although I would go out with my friend to go shopping, seeing movies, or even just chatting, I would never forget that my important target is finishing my study. Until now, I am still follow it and concentrate on my study.

    The reason that I can focus on my schoolwork is that I can develop my potential ability through study. I can choose the class that I’m interested in. Besides, I can appreciate different cultures through theses courses. I don’t want to be regreted after graduated from college. For me, study is the variety of my life.

    I think that I had changed a lot of my thoughts since I entered senior high school. I think that knowledge is really the best power for us because if you tried very hard and you will get more .
    So, for me, study is like a support of inspirarion and that is why I study. Besides, now I am studying what I enjoy.

    College life is important to me becuase I can learn lots of things and improve my abilities in this period. Despite I know that I have to concentrate on schoolworks but I still would be interfered with somethings. The most tempting one is friends and TV. I love to getting together with my friends, and we always go shopping or chatting in the coffee shop. Besides, TV also takes my time. There are many interesting programs seize my attention. I cost lots of time to watch TV and go out with my friends. I think I have to arrange my life, and spend more tome on the schoolworks.

    When I in senior high, I wanted to go to college as soon as I can. Now I am a college student.There are a lot of different things from before.In college, you have to be independent,moreover you have to be responsibility for yourself.However, there still a lot of temptations for me.Just like we can not always concerntrate on schoolwork, sometimes we will have desires to have fun and relax.So,we will skip the class to have our own time to enjoy.But, we still pay attention to the important things from school.

    Many temptations are attracting me because of making me relax. Such as chatting, go shopping with my friends, surfing the Internet and sleeping. These reason are usually delaed my schedules. Sometimes i wanna evading difficult things or problems so i will go to realx in a while. However, when the day(I have to hand in something) is coming, I am rush to finish it. Therefore, the result is not very well. I think I have to improve myself to be positive because I want to preparing everying in the best situation.

    Money, love, outdoor activities must be the things makes me couldn’t concentrate on my shoolwork.
    i need money then i’ll spend lots of time to earn some money. I enjoy the feeling of love then i’ll put my attention in love. i love nature so i’ll always do some out door activities.
    But i think i’m the person could control myself. when i feel i put too much time in those things, i would pull myself back to the normal courses.

    When I was studying in senior high, i always wanted time can go fast, so that I can enter college earlier. Because I know that college life has much freedom than senior high. Since I started living in college life. I found that self-control is so important for every student.
    As for me, my work is the most important thing that makes me can’t be concentrate on my study. Because I work in a famouse restaurant. Lots of people come to the restaurant everyday, especialy, weekend. Everytime when I get home, I am so exhausted, and can’t review my lesson. That’s the reason why i couldn’t focus on my study in the begining of the 2nd grade. But now, I know how to plan my time for my friends, family, work, and school. It’s really important for me knowing how to plan my time.

    In college, nobody will tell you what to do. You have to manage your own time, and always make sure that don’t waste your time. Do something is meaningful and useful.By the way, if you can, try everything that you have never done before. It may help you to find yourself. For sure, study is still the most important part in your college life. Learning is good for you.

    when i was in senior high school, i really want to graduate and to be in collage. because in high school, everything we have to follow the school rule, and study the tax book everyday.Now , i’m a college student, i can study what i really want, and most important thing is we have more free time that we can arrange it by ourself.

    My college temptation was extracurricular activities.
    When I accepted my friends’ inviting, I always forgot my homework or reports. I liked to do the papers, but I always did not have enough time to deal with these works. Once, one of my classmate was flunked out and she had no idea to do anything. The sudden news shocked me; after that, I decided that I should had self-control. Because it was a serious thing for me during my live.

    I think the temptation seduces me away from going to class is SLEEP. I love sleeping so much, especially when there is a cold current comes from China. The unresisting warmth of staying in bed really makes me hesitated or even overwhelmes me even to have any thoughts of going to school. It’s a bad habbit since I was a child abd I think it’s really hard for me to get rid of it.

    In my opinion,I think I am kind of a person that if I decide to do somthing I well try my best to be the number one, to be the best. Everyone says that I am too serious about schoolwork and job . But what I am thinking is as we spent so much time why don’t we do our best, show our ability to prove that “I can do it!” I know sometimes I am too serious , but I think it is my personality. It is quite good! Isn’t it?

    Be responsible to yourself. I think this is the most important thing when you’re in college. Actually, I didn’t do it well. I admitted that I waste previous two years on many things. I didn’t concentrated on my study. Coming from a little country, Taipei has so many things that made me feel interesting. However, I’m a junior now, I begin to focus on my study. Placing study at the first. I think that made me feel sufficient, and I started to become an adult.

    When it come to temptations, too many of them are arounding us. No matter TV, friends invitations or your own decision will count a lot on succeeding or not.
    The most important is the determination, I’m easy to feel frustrated which leads me lose determination easily. But I know the reality gradually. If I fail I can earn the experience, that’s the most important.

    In my opinion college temptation is a part of college life that on one can avoid it, the only way is to face to it, master it, and conquer it. In this part, we should make sure to realize what we want to derive from college, happiness or knowledge?
    What about both? I think being well in time management could meets both together!

    College life is different from Senior high school. Teachers in college won’t force you to complete all schoolworks because they think studying is a process that makes us improve, it is our responsibility. So if we can’t reach the standard, we will be failed. I think the will power is essential and a key to succeed. If we can’t even control ourselves, we won’t complete anything.
