It has been controversial regarding the abolitionor retention of the death penalty for quite a while in Taiwan. Many human rights groups have long campaigned for abolition of the death penalty such as Amnesty International, the Taiwan Association for Human Rights, the Judicial Reform Foundation, the Catholic Church as well as a number of smaller non-governmental organizations. These groups basically claim that no one has the right to kill another one. In contrast, public opinion polls conducted in 2006 showed that 80 percent of respondants were opposed to abolition of the death penalty. They view the death penalty as the solution for violent crime. What about you? Are you in favor of or againt banning the death penalty?
