To Be or Not To Be

Thursday again! If you hate some class on Tursday morning, you may wake up on the horns of a dilemma – either you go to class bored or you are marked with absent, losing two points which you do need most. If someone is on the horns of a dilemma, he or she is faced with two equally unpleasant options and has to choose one. This happend to Demeter. As her daughter was abducted by Hades, Zeus as a mediator demanded Persephone to return to her mother Demeter for two thirds of the year, during which time Demeter would grant mankind the gift of harvest. For the remaining third of the year, Persephone would stay with Hades as Queen of the Underworld. During this time, mankind would endure a harsh winter of deprivation.

Demeter thought she would lose her daughter and withdraw the gift of fertility or reunited with her daughter and offer the gift of fertility. But Zeus enabled he to break out of her mindset of “black-or-white”, selecting a “midway” or “third option”.  We often evaluate people as either good or bad, and consider choices as either right or wrong (Of course, there is absolute truth in Christianity). How are you thinking in black and white terms? Is there a grey area between black and white? Or do you have a dilemma you are currently facing?

I think there is no black and white terms. If someone do not like to go to a certain class, it might have reasons. For example, the course is too boring to attend. In contrast, it may be the student’s problems, he or she might be careless in his or her studying work.
Therefore, I consider there’s a grey area between black and white, everything have right and wrong side, but not so exactly. No one is perfect, and no one is evil.

  2. I think everything has good side and bad side, like black and white terms. Anyway you would lost one side, like an old Chinese saying “魚與熊掌不可兼得.” But, once you face the dilemma, you have to think about it very carefully and not hurt anyone. 雙贏 is the best.

II think the white term and black term are both exist. But most of the time, there will be grey area between the white and black term. Many things in the world can’t be defined as right or wrong. Each decision has its own reason.
Sometimes, I facing some situation that I can’t decide what to do is much better. I usually choose the mid-way.

  4. When it comes to something you want to do or you want to have. You can’t have everything you want, you always have to sacrfice something that you want or you have. To scarfice something is not always bad. Try not to be so greedy and many the one you choose is the one that is best!
When it comes to situations that happens between you and others then you will have to act smart on decision making and try not to hurt anyone according yourself.
