To punish humankind, Pandora was sent down from the god Zeus at Olympus, with a box or jar containing her dowry. She was unaware that she would unleash up the earth all manner of woes that Zeus had stashed within. Pandora opened the lid of the jar out of curiosity. The evils flew out, but Hope remained inside just under the lid of the jar. Even though different interpretations of Hope’s retention in the jar have been taken, which can be possibly good and bad, I would rather believe it is the only blessing to keep the human race from utter despair in the face of suffering, trial, and tribulation.
What would you do if you were Pandora? Would you open the box? What would you react to the spreading out of evils? How do you see any aspects of your own life in Pandora’s situation? What insight do you take away from the story? How will you apply the insight to better your own life or the lives of others?
