Hope in the Box

To punish humankind, Pandora was sent down from the god Zeus  at Olympus, with a box or jar containing her dowry.   She was unaware that she would unleash up the earth all manner of woes that Zeus had stashed within.  Pandora opened the lid of the jar out of curiosity.  The evils flew out, but Hope remained inside just under the lid of the jar.  Even though different interpretations of Hope’s retention in the jar have been taken, which can be possibly good and bad, I would rather believe it is the only blessing to keep the human race from utter despair in the face of suffering, trial, and tribulation.

What would you do if you were Pandora? Would you open the box? What would you react to the spreading out of evils? How do you see any aspects of your own life in Pandora’s situation?  What insight do you take away from the story? How will you apply the insight to better your own life or the lives of others?

  1. Being a woman I think I’ll be very curious while there was a beautiful box or jar just right in front of me, I will definitely open the jar if no one told me not ever try to open the lid then I wll open it just because I am curious as Pandora herself.

If I were Pandora, as the moment I opened the lid of the jar I wouldn’t let the only beautiful thing “hope” stay alone in the jar, I would keep the jar open till everything flew out for how should I know there was no good or beautiful angel or sweet inside the jar; I would still keep the jar open maybe some day there would be evils that went back directly to the jar so that I could leave the lid shut and maybe the one that went back would be the “Despair” one.

  3. I think I would open the box, because I have curiosity, too. But I would be very regret and shock of spreading out of evils. In our living, we usually regret because of curiosity. In my own life, I can’t escape, so I have to accept, because it’s my own choice. Pandora had no fault, just due to curiosity, that everyone have. If Pandora didn’t open the lid of the jar, she would also be regret.

  5. I think I will just do the same as Pandora did. Humans are always Curious otherwise there won’t be so many inventions. But I would be really frightend if I saw the evils coming out from the box but I will try my best to solve the situation even thought there is nothing I can do but at lease I tried and I have to responsible of what I have done.
