Forgive and Forget?

It is human nature that we respond angrily and immediately when we are offended physically, mentally or verbally. We have a longing desire for revenge. But as we read Mary Foley’s story of what had happened to her daughter, she has overcome her hatred and vengeance against her daughter’s murderer, seeking reconciliation with Beatriz through her religious faith.

What do you think is the most striking thing about Mary’s story? What do you think about Mary Foley, the forgiver? About Beatriz, the murderer? Would you treat Beatriz differently or similarly were you Mary Foley? Explain. How would you face the victim’s family if you were Beatriz?

Meanwhile, The Minister of Justice addressed to the public recently that she wouldn’t order any death sentence in her term which has aroused greatly heated discussion. What do you think of her statement? Do you agree with it or not?

    My classmates and I were all suspicious that the story is ture or not, because this is unbelievable! Why and how could a mother forgive the murderer who was kill your daughter immediately? According to Mary’s story, I learned a lot from it. Like we have to try to forgive people as possible but to just condemn them. I would not treat Beatriz similarly absolutely! If I were Mary, I can not imagine if this were happened to me and what would I do. And if I were the murderer, Beatriz , perhaps I were feel very apologetic to the victim’s family.

    If I were Mary,I wouldn’t easily forgive the murder who killed my daughter.How dare him to finished a person’s life like that easy,the just begging the forgiveness?How many people would choose to forgive the murder?I bet not quite a lot.I must say that Mary is the most tolerant person ever.God gives us an emotion to cry,anger and be happy.However,after readling the Mary’s story,I know that we all shall learn how to forgive the people who make a mistake even though we get mad or sorrowful.This is pretty hard to do in the reality,but I know this is one of our lessons of life.If I were a murder,I dare not to beg the forgiveness from the victim’s family,because I knew how worse I have hurt a happy family.

    The most striking thing to me is how can Mary forgives Beatriz so quickly and even concerns about him. If I were Mary, I will never truly forgive Beatriz. It’s really hard to forgive the person who killed someone you love. So I think Mary is so merciful and noble. I admire her spirit very much. If I were Beatriz, I will do my best to make up for the tragedy. In sum, It’s hard to forgive people who has hurt you. But this is the key point we learned from the lesson. I will try to do it in the future.

    It’s pretty hard to forgive the one who kill the person you love.I think Mary is a very kind and generous person because I couldn’t do this . However, if I were Mary , I can’t understand why Beatriz doesn’t think any consequence before she doing that and why this thing would happen to me. If I were Beatriz,I think I will do my best to make up for what I did. It’s easy to take someone life away but to forgive is the hardest thing in the world. I hope we could learn how to forgive so that we won’t have so much pain and sorrow .

    In my opinion, the most striking thing is Mary not only forgave the murder who killed her daughter but also kept contacting with Beatriz by writing letters even though she was very angry at first.

    Mary was a woman having a kind heart;she choose to forgive Beatriz and not let resentment to distort the reality of her human nature. That’s very difficult for a person to do such a beahavior. I think Beatriz was not a rational person, for she didn’t realize the truth situation and killed the Charlotte.Maby I would forgive her as the same as Mary did for her because if I continued to curse her and didn’t forgive her, it would not change the fact which had happened before.
    I would say sorry to the victim’s family and then turn over a new leaf, for I consider this is much more important to be a better person than just say sorry to the victim’s family.
    This is not an easy question to answer, but I think the system of law is not perfect enough;therefore, we should find a better or another way to deal with this problem. In conclusion, I agree the statement for the reason that I think we should give those convict a chance to change their lives.

    I learned a lot from this extraordinary story. Forgiven is not easy; especially to forgive someone heart you a lot. Mary shows her generous and selfless in the story. God gives her an extraordinary confidence overcome and forgive the murderer who killed her daughter. I do admire her very much, because not everyone can do same thing like her. However, human will make mistake. We do make mistake. If we don’t open our heart to condone those people who did something wrong, how can we ask people to forgive us as well? Forgive is not easy, but we can’t stay in the resentment and pain for our whole life.

    I think the most striking thing about this story is that Mary being able to forgive the murderer of her daughter. She was heart-broken, but she chose to forgive the murderer- Beatriz, or it would allow that person to control her life.
    I think Mary is a very strong and caring person; she not only forgave Beatriz but also visit prisons to meet offenders and give them help. As for Beatriz, she stabbed Charlotte for her hatefulness, which is not the way I deal with my anger. She should use other ways to let out her hate, such as discussing with her parents or teachers.
    I would treat Beatriz differently if I were Mary Foley; I am not as generous as she, I’d wish her to feel my pain.
    I have no idea how to face the victim’s family if I were Beatriz, there is no way to pay a life back.
    I think it’s unnecessary to cause such a chaos and discussion of this issue.
    I agree, let the prisoners relax for a while, too much pressure is bad for their health.

      It is said that “when you choose to forgive, you release yourself to become yourself again.” Therefore, if I will Mary, I think I will forgive Breatriz finally. However, I’ll forgive this person rather than the thing that she had committed. Just like what the teacher said last week. About her family, if the murder is adult, I don’t think that it’s their parent’s fault. Because she is an adult, she should have a responsibility to her behaviors. On the other hand, if I will the murder, Breatriz, I would not forgive myself, and I’ll be very sorry to their family.
      After reading the story, I think that everyone should have a chance to improve their fault. Maybe, he or she would become a good person after they committed and then got punished. So I agree to the Minister of Justice.

    The most striking thing about Mary’s story is that Mary forgave the murder which killed her daughter even kept writing with the murder! Giving up our revenge is very difficult, that is, it takes a very strong courage to overcome. Mary Foley had an expressed response after she faced the killer. She had chosen to be a forgiver but not an avenger. Though Beatriz was affected by her own background and already felt regretful what he had done, he still couldn’t change the fact. However, if I was Mary Foley, I won’t forgive the murder so quickly, and it is impossible to spend my time on comprehend the background of the murder. If I were she, I think I probably will blame on he murder and always fall down in the deepest sorrow. The worst possibility is that I try to commit suicide. This way is the most stupid choice, but people consider they will find another Brightside through this wrong action. It is pretty hard to give forgiveness to the person who made a mistake, let along the mistake will last for a whole lifetime! If I was Beatriz, perhaps I wouldn’t have courage to face the victim’s family. Even though I was affected by my own background, I am still too incapable to control myself. Although give forgiveness is a pretty difficult thing to learn, we will have to learn how to do this. Every one has possibility to make mistakes, but we cannot judge anyone on the only mistakes. Forgiveness is important, so do the improvement.

    If I were Mary, I could not forgive the murder who killed my daughter. Being a mother, the children and family are the most important things in her life. Especially daughter is just like a part of mother body. But Mary forgave the murder, it was grand behavior. I consider that many people can not forgive the murder who hurt their lover who is very important person in their life. But I am not Mary, I will treat Beatriz differently. If I were Beatriz, I would apology and suicide. Although everyone knows that forgive is important and it makes you feel easy, just only a few people can do this. But when you can forgive the murder, you will not get suffering. I still have to learn this lesson.

    I think that Mary could forgive Beatriz is the most striking thing in the story.
    Mary is a kind-hearted woman. I really appreciate that she could write letters with the murderer. Her kindness and strong are respected. She relied on her religion and overcame the sadness.
    Beatriz is a poor girl, but she can’t kill people. There is no excuse that she did the wrong thing. She should try to solve the problem instead of murder.
    Maybe I will forgive Beatriz after a long time. But, I think she should be punished.
    She should know what she did hurt not only a person, but a whole family and herself.
    I will do my best to make up for my mistake if I were Beatriz.
    I disagree. Although they did the wrong, we still can’t decide a person’s life. I believe that God will teach them and they’ll change.

    To me, the most striking thing about Mary’s story is that she not only forgave the crime committed by Beatriz, but also be willing to share her experiences in public, hoping to help someone else.
    In my opinion, Mary is a flexible woman who is willing to open her mind to listen to other’s voices and then change her thoughts. About Beatriz, I believe that no one is born to be a murderer, and so does she. There must be some things that result in her ill behaviors.
    Since living my life with hate everyday could be quite torturous, I think I would forgive both her and the crime she committed. The murderer and the crime she or he commits is correlative and is hard to be separated. Thus, if I would like to forgive something, I should always try my best to forgive the whole one. If I were Beatriz, I would not know “how” to face the victim’s family. But I’m sure I will muster up my courage and face them.
    About the debate of death sentence, I think it’s something requiring the various phases of thinking. Actually, I’ve thought about this subject of debate for a long time. But I can hardly tell whether I agree with it or not.

    The goverment has acknowledged that abolishing the death penalty is a global trend and promised to make an effort to phase it out.
    However, the main problem is that many Taiwanese have a strong sense in the justice of ”an eyes for an eyes, a tooth for a tooth.”
    The TV host 白冰冰said,”Now there is no hate in my mind, but the the resignation of Minister of Justice Wang Ching-feng (王清峰)is not those victims,she can’t understand families who have suffered great pain resulting from the murder of a loved one.”
    It is ture ,we have not go through the path .Thus, I would not said such a words like,「would rather go to hell」 than order the execution of the 44 convicts on death row. I won’t do that to pretend I am a sage.
    Western society tend to forgive the murders, because they think it will let the pain all over.Maybe,白冰冰 forgave the murder and his families,
    but she will never forget.It depends on people.
    I think the death penality is necessary to our seciety now, but it must based on effective rules.

    This story gives me a great idea about forgive. Mary is so generous to forgive Beatriz. We can’t keep the resentment whole life, and to forgive is a lesson for everyone to learn.
    I think if somebody killed my beloved one, I will not forgive the murderer so easily. It is such a great pain in my heart. It’s really hard to forgive a person who heart you a lot.
    If I were Beatriz, I really don’t know how to face the victim’s family. She had killed Mary’s daughter, but Mary forgive her and encourage her. And because the girl I killed, Mary’s family missed a member forever.

      that is unbelieveable. A mother forgives the killer who killed her daughter. That behave is very great. It is holier than everybody in the world, because we are not easy to forget the resentment.
      If I meet the thing same with her, I will be crazy and very sorrow. i can not do the same reaction, becase it difficult for me to forgive someone who kill my relatives.
      But if I am Beatriz, I will not dare to face an event what i done, and face Mary’s relatives, because their family lost their daughter forever.

      I saw this story few weeks ago. The story is talking about a boy was killed, but his mother not only forgrave the murder but also saw the murder to be her son. If I was the woman, I would become carzy. Perhaps the woman once had become crazy. But now she forgives. It says that the woman contacts Christianity, then she forgive. Because Christianity tell us that we should use our love to tolerate everyone.

    I think that the most striking thing is about that Mary forgives Beatriz. If I am Mary, I will never forgive the murder, Beatriz. Because I will be crazy about my daughter’ death, I can’t forgive Beatriz. I think Mary has a great mind to forgive Beatriz because she chooses to forgive Beatriz. And I think Beatriz is a bad guy, because why Mary needs to see Beatriz in prison and why Beatriz didn’t do anything that Mary is easy to forgive Beatriz. I totally do not like Beatriz because Beatriz is a murder.

    I think it is very hard to forgive people who killed your daughter. If someone misunderstood me. It’s really difficult to pardon, so forgive a murderer is the most impossible thing. I feel shocked that Mary forgave Beatriz. If I were Mary, I will hate this bad guy forever. Perhaps that’s why this story exist. Teach us how to forgive someone who hurts your heart. If I were Beatriz, I will very regret. It is hard to get forgiveness from victim. Generally speaking, although forgive is hard to achieve, we should learn the true meaning of forgiveness from this movie.

    I think that the most striking thing is Mary decide to pardon Beatriz even if he kill her daughter.Although she was really sad,she chose to forgive Beatriz and give him a chance to revise.
    I think Mary is a very mighty and strong woman because she forgive Beatriz.This behavior is not everyone can do.
    I think Beatriz is a person who really lucky,for he meet Mary.She chose to forgive him.
    If I were Mary,I maybe will chose to foregive Beatriz because I think that my daughter was die and it can not chage this truth.Even if Beatriz get any punishment my daughter can not return be my side.
    If I were Beatriz, I will feel about sorry to Mary and I will try my best to make up for my error.

    I think it’s hard to forgive the people who ever hurted you.
    But the old man in the movie, he forgave the man, and helped him to live his life.
    In Taiwan, it has a problem about death penalty now.
    Though the lesson taught us to forgive the people who made mistakes, i still think they must to be responsible for the people passed away and their families.
    So my opinion is not support abolish the low.
    Some people can forgive the person who hurted him/her, i thinked they are very great.
    And it’s a important lesson i really to learn.

    To my surprise, Mary Foley forgive the murderer who killed her daughter. Anyway, I think she is a kindhearted woman. And, even the murderer Beatriz didn’t think that the victim’s mother would forgive him. I can’t image that I forgive someone who killed my family. No matter what the reason for the murderer to kill my family is. It’s hard for me to forgive this kind of person. Maybe I wouldn’t take revenge to tne murderer, but he has to subject to legal sanctions at least.
    I don’t agree with her statement. I had read the news that the Minister of Justice said she didn’t want to execute the murderers because she felt even the murderers also have human rights. We should give them one more chance to be a new man. However, didn’t the victims have human rights? Why should the victims have to be killed? So, I think that death penalty should be used. Furthermore, I strongly think that justice doesn’t protect the victims and their family in Taiwan.

    In my opinion, Mary‘s story is only one of tragic ones. As a result ,the a number of the same things also happened during the same time. Although, Mary Foley can not forgive the Beatriz at frist, she is really a respectable mother. However, if I were she I can not forgive someone easily, I even would ask for the government follow the punishment justly.
    Also, I totally can not agree Wang Ching-feng ’s statement I suppose she do not really understand how terrible on the victim ’s family. Whatever this sentence will be fired, I think the same kind of victims will become much more in Taiwan. In short, our security may bring a big promble.

    Mary Foley mentioned “When you don’t forgive,you allow that person to control your life…..”.I just a little agree with her view.Why?Because I think if a person insult me,talk our gossip behind me or make something that would hurt me,I probably can forgive them as time went by.But if something happened that can’t retrieve,I would probably not easy to forgive them.It is a callenge topic for us and we need more time to learn how to forgive others in our whole life.

    The most striking thing in this story is that Mary not only forgave the murderer who killed her love, but also had regular contact with her. Mary lost her daughter, it was really heartbroken. She chose to forgive the murderer instead of revenging to her. She was a charitable and brave person. Not everyone could do this like her. Killing people is very difficult. I believe that Beatriz must burdened lots of pressure and regretted what she did. If I were Mary, I would resent the murderer very much at first. But my daughter couldn’t relive anymore, maybe I would forgive her instead of resenting someone in my life. If I were Beatriz, I would shame for facing the victim’s family and burden a lot of pressure in my residual life.
    I don’t agree it. If you commit a crime, you should be punished. Maybe the victim’s family will forgive you, but it doesn’t mean you don’t need to accept the sanctions of the law.

    If I were Mary, I don’t think the murderer commit an excusable error. He has no bowels to kill my daughter at her birthday party. He is able to have the indiscretiom to kill someone. I’m a mother who nurse intense hatred against to him. Maybe I can forgive the murderer until he is sorry about the base conduct. If I were Beatriz , I believe it will be censured violently. Because I destoried the person, Charlotte, a sixteen-year-old girl. My conscience is heavy. I blush for my conduct and feel apologetic to her family. I will try my best to face a tragedy and grieve over her death. I gain enlightenment from Mary’s story. She turned sorrow into strength. Although her sorrow didn’t abdate, she choose to pardon him for doing wrong. I agree the statement that I learn how to forgive an offense from the story.

    In my opinion, the most striking thing about this story is Mary’s forgiveness toward Beatriz. I think Mary is very kindly because it is hard to forgive a person who has hurt him or her deeply. Mary is also very gentle of sharing her experience to other people. Beatriz, the murderer of Mary’s daughter, is a very unforgivable convict.
    If I were Mary Foley, I would never forgive the convict who has hurt me in such an unforgivable way, but maybe I would forgive her if she gave me a very reasonable apology. If I were Beatriz, I would have no idea about how to face the victim’s family because I had hurt them a lot; therefore, I would try to think of a good way to apologize to them.
    I think death penalty is equal to life imprisonment, but it is hard for me to say whether I agree or disagree with it.

    I think the forgiveness and mercy Mary has towards the murderer is unbelievable. I’m very hard to be convinced that someone would actually show any compassion and care about the killer of their daughter. She is too good to be true in real life and I think she is too weak to face her anger and hatred towards the killer.
    If I were Mary Foley I would never forgive the muderer and I wish she could be setence to death penalty or leave dying alone in the prison for the rest of her life.
    And if I were the killer Beatriz, I would be living in fear and regret for every single day, fear of the victim’s family’s revenge, and regret of the stupid mistake.

      It’s hard for me to forgive someone that hurted person who I love even killed. If I were Mary Foley , I wouldn’t forgive the killer. I think Mary Foley is a board-mind and mercy person ,but I do not know if I can be like her. People said time will efface the pain ,but I don’t want to forget the suffering. It’s a proof that someone were here althought it’s a painful memory. If I were Beatriz ,I would regret what have I done. It’s not only suffer the victim’s family ,but also sorry for her family. If someone killed other people ,I agree that sentence to death. We must let they know how serious mistake they made.

    In my view, the main idea of this article is that Mary forgave Beatriz, the murderer.I think that I won’t forgive the murderer. I think Mary is a kind person because she forgave the murderer even though Beatriz killed her daughter. It’s really hard to me to forgive someone who killed my beloved family. If I am Beatriz, I will do a large number of things to make up my mistake. I will feel so embarrassed because of my behavior and I want to get the forgiveness from the victim’s family.
    I saw the news recently. I don’t agree with her opinion about abolishing death penalty. I think that if death penalty is abolished some day in the future, people are not afraid of laws anymore. I think that death sentence should be implemented in Taiwan.

    I think Mary is a brave woman because she can overcome her hated and vengeance. It’s difficult to everyone to forgive the murderer who kill your beloved; however, Mary did.
    I think I am not a kind person, so I won’t forgive the murderer. Frist of all, I have no idea how to face the murderer. Second, it’s not easy to me to overcome sorrow. I learned forgiving in this article, but I did not know how to use it. I will not be a murderer because I know the feeling for losing our beloved.

    Forgiving is a difficult thing to most of people, especially when someone hurt your family, friends, or your lover. In our daily life, we often would get angry to someone for doing something that we do not like. Sometimes, we even want to take vengeance. We could not forgive someone easily. In this story, the most extraordinary part is that Mary Foley forgave Beatriz and shared her story to people. Mary replaced animosity with forgiveness. She believed that to reget a person also to restrict oneself. I think that Mary had done much striving and she had enough bravery, so that she could forgive the one who killed her daughter. If someone hurt or killed my beloved one, I can not promised that I could like Mary to forgive the offender. It is a hard thing to forgive. Forgiving the one who ever hurt you is releasing yourself, too.This story encourages people to forgive and forget the sad things.

    I think Mary can forgive Beatriz is an incredible thing to me. Because If I were Mary, I would never forgive the person who had kills my daughter. I think any people can’t freely end off someone’s life. It is too wicked. In the story, Mary forgive Beatriz, I feel she is very greatly. I believe that there are not many people can do the same thing with Mary, but she did. She forgives Beatriz with her generosities heart. However, if I were Beatriz, I would feel very ashamed, even don’t know how to face Mary’ family. But I believe that in Beatriz’s deep inner heart, she would very appreciate what Mary had done to her.
    About the death penalty, I strongly agree that we must have it. I think the killers should be punished harshly because they deserved it.

    Honestly, this story is not a striking essay to me. I read, and I cried since the action Mary Foley had taken after her daughter was killed really touched me. To forgive a person who hurt you (or hurt your relationship) is an important lesson in every human’s lifetime. It is not an easy matter for people to forgive others, however, to forgive others is to overlook yourself.
    Beyond all doubt, Mary Foley is a great and kind woman. Overcoming her sorrow and grief gave her a chance to face the reality, and forgiving the murderer made Beatriz experiencing the tender sentiments between people.
    Beatriz, the murderer, is a weakener (or weakling) in society. She was bullied by others. The things she faced everyday might made her mental condition defective and unsound. Though she made a wrong thing (killing people), being imprisoned is another strike to her.
    I’m not sure what would I feel and what would I do if I were Mary Foley. People make the decision not only bound up with their thought but also with the circumstance.
    If I were Beatriz, I might feel regretful, sorry, and criminal. (Just maybe.) I guess it is more complex in the criminal’s mind. The factors in the reaction she had might owing to different side. Therefore, I can not definitely describe how I would face the victim’s family. “Sorry” may not be the answer here, I think.

    The most striking thing for me is that Mary forgives the murder and keeps contacting with murder. Besides, if I were Mary , I would never forgive Beatriz totally. It is so difficult for a person to forgive another person who kills someone who is your truly love. I think that Mary is very kind and her behavior that I couldn’t imagine.     I will get angry easily when someone offends me, not to mention that someone kills my daughter. In the story, Mary is so brave and sturdy that she chooses to forgive Beatriz and release herself. If I encounter it, I think I just can’t accept that my daughter is killed and I will get crazy or even don’t want to live. However, it is a pity that Beatriz ruins her life by herself. There is a beautiful life wait for her if she doesn’t stab Charlotte, but she devastates it. And her family is destroyed as well because the thinking of “their relative is a murderer “may follow them forever. Although I won’t forgive Beatriz if I were Mary, forgiving Beatriz seems as a medicine to Mary. To forgive makes Mary free from the jail of losing her daughter and she becomes herself again!
    The issue of abolishing death penalty is very controversial. Actually, I oppose to abolishing it. Because I feel that someone need to pay back for what he or she has done. But after thinking deeply, maybe don’t use death penalty is better. Although it’s not fair for victim, to give them a chance to help more people is more valuable.

    If I were Mary, I would never forgive the murder. If the murder can not be punished, that was so awful. Mary is very brave and kind, she finally forgive the murder, general people won’t forgive the one who killed their relatives. It is very hard for me to forgive somebody who hurt my family. But an important thing is that I should learn more from Mary, her kindness save the murder even though she is a murder. Forgive someone is a great thing, you have to put down everything you hate.     I realized that it is not easy to forgive someone.
    Although Mary forgave the murderer, I think I don’t have such tolerance. Of course, we need to forgive person when someone makes some mistakes. But if someone killed my daughter, I don’t think I would forgive him on that time. Maybe the time can ease the pain of losing daughter. Many years later, I probably will forgive the murder. However, it’s hard to do when you truly meet this kind of situation.
    If I were Beatriz, I think I will face to their family and apologize for what I did. Even though they don’t accept, I will still express my sorry to let them lose an angel. I will try my best to do charity for doing this murder.

    Most western people are very pious confessors. The special power of faith is really striking me. Mary Foley chose to release herself and the murderer. She really has a kind heart. It needs exceptional courage to forgive and forget. As for the murderer Beatriz, I think maybe she was a little bit out of her mind at that time. She didn’t think much about the aftermath and she’s just a teenager.
    I definitely won’t forget the murderer. If I was Mary, I would remember this miserable thing all of my life and it was impossible for me to contact with her.
    Maybe I would suicide, if I was Beatriz. I didn’t have the ability to face all the consequences. The punishment would be torture to me.

    I don’t agree with the Minister of Justice. I think most of the people can’t tolerate that if someone who murdered their love can still live alive. The scheme that she had made is feasible, but still have a wide range to discuss.

    I think I would never forgive the murderer if I were Mary. I even can’t understand why she can do it until now. Forgive is much harder than I know; furthermore, the victim is her daughter Charlotte, the one with all her heart. However, the murderer is not on purpose, maybe this is one of the reason why Mary forgives the killer Charlotte.
    The issue of death penalty is discussing everywhere. After reading this article, I still support death penalty because it is not fair for sufferers. I think it is necessary to protect them not only for cases of murder.

    Forgive and Forget come in life. It’s a lifetime curriculum for humanity from start to the end. Since I read through this story, I realized forgiving and forgetting is not what I thought it is. Time and our own emotion intelligence quotient would be the factors, main factors. Forgiving and Forgetting a little betray from friends or families is just a scratch. Knowing that your beloved has been killed by someone who is anonymous, that’s even devastating. I know I am nobody, just a normal person with a normal life. I ain’t got no big heart like Jesus, but still I am trying to be a person like Mary.

    I think those people who can forgive people made huge mistakes are very generous such as Mary.

    Mary forgive the murderer who killed her daughter is so unbelievable to me. How kind can she do that. Forgiven is not easy; especially to forgive someone heart you a lot. Mary is so generous and respectable. she not only forgave but also visit prisons to meet offenders and give them help. We should learn the kindness heart from her.     If I were Mary, I would try to forgive the girl, but it were be a endless way to go.
    Take myself for example, when I have to forgive someone, my feeling is “Why me?? I don’t want to do this first.” But, if everyone has this thinking in their mind, the problem won’t be solved.

    Most people think that it is easy to forgive a person who broke your pen, but if the person murdered your daughter, would you forgive him or her easily?
    In this story, we can find out that it has such a kind and gentle woman in the reality. Mary Foley showed great bravery in this situation. For me, it is hard to overcome the struggle between to forgive or not to forgive Beatriz. Finally she did it and I believe that it maybe good for Beatriz even Mary Feloy herself.     I think the most striking part of this story is when Beatriz wrote a letter telling Mary that how regretful she was and why she killed Chalotte. She was bullied not only at home but also at school. I think those people who was bullied or abused is excusable for their crime because they didn’t mean to to that. Sometimes we should realized those offender’s reason why they kill people, I’m not saying that every crime is reasonable but if we understand some background of those people, maybe forgiveness isn’t that hard to understand. Mary is a kind of an example. She even said that she think Beatriz and her daughter would have got on well. However, the murderer’s family would have suffer from this, they will feel guity to the victims, they will suffer from other people’s comments and even curses. From another angle, I think they are victims, too.

    According to the stroy of Mary’s, we can find out that Mary is an extremely kind person. She not only forgave the murderer, but also reconciled with him. Because of Mary’s kindness, she is a model to all of us. We shouldn’t have harted and vengeance in our mind all the time, or we would never forgive others; moreover, we wouldn’t have a happy life either. If I were Mary, it would take me a long time to calm down myself and think about that should I forgive the murderer or not. At the end, I think I would forgive him, because no matter what I do, how much I hate him, or how I really want the revenge, I know that’s all useless. And if I were Beatriz, I would regret killing Mary’s daughter. As a killer, of course I would do everything I can do to compensate the victim in order to earn their forgiveness.

    I think that is a huge striking in someone’s life whose son or daughter be killed. If my dog and cat was killed I am going to be crazy! Furthermore my daughter!
    I think Mary forgave Beatirz because of her belief. Christian have to obey the Ten Commandments in the Bible so Mary chose to forgive Beartiz. Despite this, I am surprised that someone chose to forgive a foe who killed his or her daughter, and I won’t forgive the muderer.
    If I am Beartriz, my opnion is as same as 陳少亘, I will feel sorry and apologize to the victim’s family.
    About the death sentence, many ppl fight against the Judgement. And I won’t forgive the person who hurts my family and my friends in a unforgivable way so I don’t agree the judgement which abolish the death sentence.

    The most striking thing in that story is obviously Foley’s overcoming the sadness of her loss and the way she extends her compassion towards Beatriz via reconcilation. What Foley did was a noble act, which this not something that anyone in her situation would be able to do. Beatriz was a kid who made a wrong decision. I don’t like answering hypothetical questions and I don’t it is my place to say what I would do in Foley’s position.

    One does not have the right to judge and expect forgiveness from another person regardless of reigious faith, for Forgiveness is easier said than done. After all, even God isn’t always unconditionally forgiving. Just check out the Old Testament. He is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction; proud and jealous. His name is Jealous and he named himself:

    For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: Exodus 34:14
    He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins. Joshua 24:19

    The former Minister of Justice was an idealist who did not offer a better solution to support her idea of anti-death penalty and her reason was weak. Her argument was “What if the case was a mistrial?” Some crimes are simply undeniable. Can someone accidentally rape then brutally murder someone? The death penalty serves its purpose by two reasons:

    1 To prevent serious future crimes from happening by intimidating possible offenders.

    2 To reassure sense of security to the society and justice for victim’s families by eliminating the possibility of parole which allows the offender to roam the streets.

    If death sentence was to be abolished, I propose that offenders must serve life sentence without chance for parole and be force to do physical labour to earn their food and accommodation. Why should the taxpayers pay for it? This is one way they can pay their debt to society.

    If my family was killed by someone,I would not decided whether to forgive him or not.

    I think that the reason why you forgive someone is because you have some feelings(love or hatred) on that person.

    If the murder had regret on his action,I would hate him at first.In the end, I would forgive him.

    On the contrary,if the murder was without any bit of regret,it’s impossible for me to forgive him

    It’s really shock me. It’s a ture story !? Wow, it is so unbelievable. I think it can be a good movie. This womon who forgive the murderer killed her daughter is great. She must through a great pain and has courage to face it.
    In my side, I think the real forgiveness notjust forgive someone who hurts you. The real one is a war which is fighting between your mind and your hated.     The most striking thing about this story is forgiveness because it is hard for people that they lost their family member who were killed. Mary is a kind woman. If I were Mary, I would never forgive the murderer who killed my children. And, who can forgive that easily? I think that we don’t have any reason to kill someone. And, if I were Beatriz, I could not face the victim’s family and I would feel great shame at killing people. But, I’m not her and I can’t really understand Beatriz’s feeling after she went through the bad past experience and she killed Mary’s daughter. And, I can’t agree with the death penalty and I can’t disagree, either.
    It’s too hard for me to talk about this issue.

    It’s too hard for me to forgive Beatriz, if I were Mary Foley. Losing someone intimate with you is such a grave grief to tolerant. Mary Foley is brave enough to accept and overcome the reality, and able to share her experience to soothe others. I don’t know if I could have this kind of courage to do this. I think I will choose to leave the Beatriz all behind. Do not see her. Do not listen to her. In order to let her feel extraordinary guilty in her rest of life.     For most people, overcoming anger and hatred to forgive the person who hurt you or someone you love. Sometimes, forgiveness could make people did bad thing repent and become a good one but it’s hard to make sure if the person would do so or continue commit crime. Therefore, I don’t think I will forgive a murderer who kill my relatives or friends. I will strive to make him receive the punishment based on the law.     If someone does something bad to me, I think that I will forgive him. I think that everyone must do something wrong during their lifetime because people are not “God”. Maybe it’s needs much time to adjust myself. I must very angry and feel upset in the beginning. But actually, I am a person with tolerance. Nothing is invariant. If that person repent and mend his way with true heart, and then he really want to change himself. I think we should give him a chance. It’s a good way for him to prove he is real and also give us a chance to learn that forgive is virtue.

    I think is that Mary forgiven the murderer, Beatriz. It’s hard to forgive a person who killed the person you beloved. Mary is an extraordinary person, because she can have a kind heart to forgive the person who killed her daughter. But, Beatriz is also a poor girl; she was bullied by her classmates. She couldn’t stand that, and no one help her. So, she decided to revenge. Maybe that was not her fault, but her way was too violent. If I were Mary, I think I may hart to forgive Beatriz, because my daughter was died and she won’t come back. Maybe I have to through a long long time, and until the murderer is really repent. If I were Beatriz, I may feel shame for what I did. And I may hard to face Mary, no to mention wrote a letter to her. But I think I may write a letter to her to express my repentance.
    Yes, I agree with that. Because you don’t have a right to take away other people’s life—even he or she is a criminal. But it should depend on whether the criminal has a regret of what he had done.

    I can’t assure completely that I can do the same thing such like Mary. But if I were Mary, maybe I would forgive Beatriz in the end. When someone hurt me deeply, no matter in what ways, I can’t forgive him in initial time. Moreover, if he is my friend or the person who I love, I will feel extremely disappointed. I can’t image why he do the such bad thing to me and I wat to know what reason makes him to do this. But I think I will for give the person who hurt me after I getting over myself. Actually, if I remember the hurt, I will always feel disappointed as I think it. So forgiving the person who hurt me is the wiser method to make myself feel better. By the way, I respect Mary’s inspirit indefinitely.
