Choose a political news story of some importance from two major Taiwan’s English newspapers—China Post and Taipei Times and read about it. Can you note the differences? Is there any bias you can find? Where does the truth lie?
Every newspaper office was supprted by different parties. Of course, we could know that if one day happens the policital problem such as election; they would say the good words at their hand, What is the truth? I think it is according to your heart. You could support any parties you like, just remember don’t do wrong things. I believe that everone has intuitive. They know what is right and false.
We know newspapers should stand positions of justice and objection; however, most of them still can’t. They have their own supporting groups. For example, if Ma president say something in pubic, some newspapers which support Ma would say that audience agree with Ma and give him a big prize. But another newspapers which against Ma will say some audience think Ma’s saying is wrong and criticize him. Actually, I think what Ma president says is not the soplight they focus on; instead, people only notice the party which he belong to. So it causes two different political paties to fight and makes people have no idea about what the real truth is. As I mentioned before, newspapers should be just and objective. They have responsibility to tell people the truth.
Most of medias in Taiwan have their support group, no matter TV channels, newspapers, or radio hookups. Seldom medias can keep the fair prescription to judge political issue. This situation disappoints me. In my opinion, the reason is some TV channels or radio hookups were created by specific parties in Taiwan or come from China or Hung Kong, so off course they can’t hold justice. And to satisfy audiences, medias have to choose supporting a specific party. So, when I get a news, I want to know or I will think about where is the news come from or who write this news, and what their purpose. The reasons is what I want is truth, not a lie created by medias.
As we know that most Medias have their own support parties. There is a clear example from China Post and Taipei Times. When you read them, you can see that they always attack the other party and write the positive words to the party which they support. Not only newspaper has this situation but also TV program or radio does. In my opinion, I don’t choose particular newspaper to read. I prefer to combine both conceptions and to think about this issue. I think that newspaper has their support position that is ok.
In Taiwan, there are kinds of media, such as newspapers, TV programs, and radio. People receive messages from these media, but they never know the messages they receive is true or be exaggerated. I think people should read at least three versions of newspaper to think about which one is most reasonable and can be trust because the newspaper office can be affected by the political party. The opinion can be biased on these newspaper, if people just read one edition of these news, they will never know what is the truth.
Taiwan has two major political parties: one is Kuomintang party, the other one is democratic progressive party. I can read the difference between china post and Taipei times by their content of report. Although I am not interested in political news, I also can tell out the difference. China post is tending to Kuomintang party, and the Taipei post is tending to democratic progressive. I only believe my own thought, by reading more variety kind of newspaper not only own agency.
The differences of my parents are their appearances, ways of educating children and personalities. My father enjoys jogging every weekend. While my mother, she likes to be couch potato when she is off work. Through their life style, you can imagine that my mother is fatter and unhealthier than my father. Their personality traits reflect the way they educate us. My mom is a sensitive woman who cares about everything related to us including our wealth and academic work. Whenever there is a symptom of sickness such as sneezes and sore throats, my mom is the one who gives us a hot ginger tea. She notices our efforts on study and thus she does not set many standards of our grades. While my father who pays our education fee tend to asked us to have higher academic performances so that we can have more opportunities to get a good job. He always looks into the distances and has many preparations for future rather than look into the present as my mom does. They only have one common that is enjoy cook desserts such as chocolate cake and cheese cake when they are in good moods.
Recently, the hot discussion of political issue is ECFA. Two main newspapers hold opposite opinions. The Union newspaper claims to sign the proposal and believes that it can bring Taiwan a promising future. Whereas, the Liberty Times states that there are numerous disadvantages spring up once Taiwan carries out ECFA. Some industrials related to low-labored workers will be destroyed. Also, it is necessary for citizens to vote for the proposal rather than letting it decided by government officials. However, the Union newspaper which is cater to the ruling party refuses to listen for citizen’s appeals and affirms that holding national referendum is inessential. Some mass medias have already been control by either ruling party or opposition party. Citizens should still have their own opinion toward the political issue and not be affected by prevail public opinions.
The ECFA issue is a headline for the mass media. In Taiwan we have several newspaper offices. What is interesting is that different offices hold different opinions. Sometimes it is obviously that which office belongs to certain political party. United Daily news and China Times are belonging to KMP. Liberty Times and Taiwan Daily are belonging to DPP. If you take a look at these newspapers, you will find out that each paper favor their political party. The amount of the good news for each party can be easily observed.
Taiwan’s political environment is really special, and it will affect news point and then affect people’s view in things. Taking “ECFA- Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement” for example, it is the most populate issue in recently. Newspapers support by two biggest parties PPT and KMT in Taiwan, and their view for ECFA are totally different. Newspaper is the most useful tool to convey a party’s ideas, that is mean if a party can control a newspaper it also mean they can control the people. How horrible it is. So, newspaper should not be control by anyone or any party.
Media like newspapers and should have justice and objection to every news. In fact, every media supports a particular party. Like China Post support KMP and Taipei Times belongs to DPP. You can know which party they support through words because they will attack the other media which is in opposite side and even report wrong information. However, as media, they need to tell the truth to the public.
