My Hobby

Carlson’s essay “Runner” illustrates how zealous she is to be a runner—waking herself up in the chilly early morning and “leaving her room, still tired.” The essay can be a good model for us to write our own description of the process. In Paragraph 5 she describes the slow beginning of the run, building to a solid pace in Paragraph 6 keeping the pace as she passes the barking dog and then running faster as she approaches home. Finally in Paragraph 7 she comes to “a fast walk” and arrives at her house.

As one suggested topic mentioned in the textbook, a hobby you keep or develop can be described as process writing. So write an essay that you’re involved with your hobby. Use Carlson’s essay as a model.

    I used to be a dodge ball team player when I was in elementary school. One day, my tutor told me there would be a draft to choose the good player for the school team. I was so surprised that I had the opportunity to be one part of the school team! Finally, I practiced the dodge ball after school every day. Dodge ball is an exciting and fun sport for most children; I believe that everyone must play it during their children hood. To me, hitting people with the ball makes me feel that I am a powerful kid and other kids admire my incredible strength. Besides, play in the square is another fun for playing dodge ball. When I escape from the ball which toward my face, let’s me proud of how fast I ran and how lucky I was! Not only the reasons I mentioned above cause me to love it, but I also learn the skills of how to defeat another school team. There are a lot variety of tactics the coach taught us which I did not know before till I took part in the school team. Although we were from different classes, because of the same interest we shared, we became close friend. I had a good time those days!

    Most people change their taste due to external factors. Take me as an example, I did not like classical music at all until last semester I chose a course called “ music and culture.” at first, I just wanted to fill up my course schedule, actually I did not like classical music. When the teacher came into the classroom I was appealed by his hair which is grayish and long like a woman and an artist. After he talked about the syllabus then he played the most classic music and asked us write down each name of them.
    However, I only wrote down one that is Beethoven. I was ashamed. Because other students wrote more than one songs. When I saw this awkward situation I made up my mind that I must spend some time figuring the music. Throughout whole semester, I have found that I have fallen in love with classic music. Finally, I realize that even though classical music does not have lyric; each of them all has its own story, whether it is happy or sad. Thanks to these stories we can have beautiful music to listen to.

    As I get home, walking by the living room, ended at bedroom. Sitting down on the chair before my desk, I turn on the computer. Listen to the “du” sounds and the ventilator of the computer starts to function that creates the whirling sounds. The wallpaper of my computer shows the fall scenery then I click the icon seeing like “e.” I go on the internet. Typing the website on the top of blank, I enter the famous place, facebook. Read the words on the screen which are showing the feeling of friends, playing the games in facebook. As the time waiting the window appears, I log on the MSN. Not surprisingly, I hear the “dun-dun-dun” sounds, seeing someone’s statements; willing to chat with me. Having wonderful feeling playing the games and chatting with friends, I click the icon means “start” and turn off the computer. The screen goes black and then I press the button. My mind gets refreshed but also complicated with the statements friends ask.

    Watching an attractive movie with eating chocolate ice cream, pizza or drinking a cup of coffee is the hobby I always enjoy in my free time. I am a fan of movie and I like comedy, drama and epically romantic movies. While I watching movie in summer, my eyes are starring at screen and my mouth is tasting a chocolate or strawberry flavor ice cream. What a terrific enjoyment! In winter, I usually have a cup of hot tea or coffee with watching movies. It’s the most cheerful thing to me in the winter. Since I like watching movies and eating or drinking something, my mother tried to warn me that will make me fat. But I can’t refuse this attractive hobby. It is too important to me, so i ignore what my mother told me. I am too love to stop this hobby.

    Reading novels was the thing I liked to do in my lesiure time when I was a junoir and senior high school student. Just liked those woung girls in puberty, strong imagination toward people, things, and life existed in my mind; therefore, the plot attaracted me deeply when reading a novel at my first time; however, my parents were not allowed me to read. They said there were lots of violent or sexual descriptions. In addition to these, the plot represented were too perfect to believe. For instance, the leading man was a young and rich man. He was cool but so handsome that lots of girls were attracted by them. and the leading lady was pretty so much. but she bumped into a big dangerous and waited people to save her. those wonderful plots I admired were not acceptable to my parents; therefore, I couldn’t read in public but in private. But now, I am mature than before and agree with my parents’ opinion. These beautiful contents which jist like children’s stories can’t happen in real life. I can’t just live in a fairy world rather than facing the true life; therefore, I don’t like to read novels anymore.

    “Now, let’s open the book to page thirty-one” the teacher who is standing in front of my desk and just said so. However, I feel so tired that I cannot concentrate in this class. Finding the pen I use mostly, start to scrawl in the book and try to make myself soberer. Two eyes, one nose, one mouth, add the things what I want to draw, there’s a rabbit appear in my textbook. A deer, a bird, a flower, and the classmate I know, they are lifelike and appear in my book. I like to draw, that is the one way I can express my feeling. The happiness, sorrow even the anger. These feelings all can be changed into a picture to let me describe my feelings.

    Whenever I feel tried or frustrationed, I would play my flute to express the feeling and stress. Opening the black leather box with the dark red lint inside, and the flute lying elegant in the box. The flute is peparted into three pieces, head , body and bottom; it is shining like jewelry. The flute can be performed right away after I assemble three pieces together. The thick low pith from the flute just like the whispering of a gril and the light pitch is as much as a bird singing. Focus on the lips and breathing, the flute will pronounce the best sound for me. To protect my flute, the water inside the instrument must be eraced after performance.

    Watching soap opera is an important things which I do it everyday. I am imaginative because I like to image a lot of storys. Soap opera is likely to close to the society. It would act the man how to cheat the woman’s love. Sometimes, I feel frasrurated.The society is really got sick .In the other hand , I also watch the comedy and image if I could own beautifully love. In addition, I also like to sing songs and dancing, When it comes to like dancing, it is necessary to mention the comedy which named purple life which is a good film and make me like to dance.

    The MLB, NBA, Formula 1 racing and tennis are drugs to me. No one could blame me if I get addicted to it. Every day when I turn on the computer and log on the internet the first stop is not the blogs of my friends or Facebook. It is the tempting link which is called “sports”. Alright, let’s see how my favorite teams are doing today. The Yankees beat the Red Soxs again, great! Oh, here is the spurs, losing, again. The Lakers and the Cavalier? I must see how the big stars are doing today. As I am surfing the pages of the internet, the sound of the ball games are calling me and said it is time to watch the replays and the highlights of the games. The TV tells what the matchup is tomorrow. Let’s keep up the good work my lovely teams! It is still a long season to go. I will be your fan for the very next day and forever. Sports never die!

    I went to eat tai-food last weekend. As we entered the restaurant, I smelled a flavor of curry and lemon. I couldn’t help but swallow my saliva. I felt I could eat a truck of food. Just in few minutes, the waitress took us to our seats on the second floor. The waitress gave the menu to each one of us. We ordered the dishes very fast because all of us felt very hungry.
    After the minutes, a lady carried a sliver container and put on the table. When she opened it, we saw a lot of white smoke up cropping. It’s rice in it. The lady helps us to load the rice into our bowls. The first dish coming up on the table was the chicken with curry. I smelled the flavor first. It’s a little spicy and sweet. I mix a little sauce with rice. The rice was soft and the sauce was very strong. Because the sauce was great, I ate a lot. After we ate all the entrée, the lady provided us the dessert. The dessert was icy and sweet. Each one of us felt content with this meal.

    I really enjoy the moment when I read what I likes. Sometimes, after class, I would go to the bookstore’s door, I breathe a kind of breath of bookishness. It is full of the air and makes me feel so comfortable. My steps are slow to walk in the bookstore. I just look around some bookshelf to find that what’s the book today I want to choose to read it. My fingers slide on the book cover softly and feel its qualities. Finding a right seat, I put down my bag and start to enjoy the time which belong to me. Words in the book, they always control my feeling and thinking. They like a magic power to push me to image some scenes. I immerse myself in this story completely. Sometimes, I even cannot leave from the plot. Every time when I finish reading a book, I always get different conception and know more what I don’t know before.

    One pan, one paper, I can be the king of the virtual world. To create a story is my hobby because every incredible thing would happen if I want, no one can resist my decisions.

    The best leading actor has a handsome face with profound eyes, pointed nose, sunny smile, and tanned skin. He has a brown, short, and curly hair. The sun lights up his hair and makes him be more conspicuous than any other one who stands beside him. He is sitting in the coffee shop; the seat is in the corner and near the window. He order a cup of coffee and reads a thick book which is talking about the fairly tale of Greece and Rome. As time goes by, the coffee drained. Listening to music broadcasted in the coffee shop, staring the door and looking the watch frequently. Someone still did not appear. The eyesight move back to the book and refill another cup of coffee. He keeps a nice mood and waits continually. Suddenly, an excepted voice emerges behind the man,”hey!” The man smiles.

    Who is the man waiting for? What is the man going to do? There are no certain answers because everything is controlled by me. To see a thing or event, then to create a story and make it a different ending is the most interesting thing for me.

    When my mother woke me up in the morning, I suddenly remembered that today is my family and I decided to go hiking and camping. Even though the sun did not show up. We had to prepare equipments and food we need. My mother and I went to a traditional market to buy food that we could barbecue in lunch time and dinner time. When we came home at 7:00a.m., my father and brothers already prepared everything. And, we started to drive the car to our destination in a mountain.
    The temperature was high, so when we started hike, everyone was sweat. At the lunch and dinner time, we chatted and barbecued. Because of this happy experience, we made a decision which is we will go hiking and camping every year.

    As I walked through the bookshelf, some books printed with tasty desserts attracted my attention. I came up an idea and then quickly rushed to super market. Not until I stood in front of the cheeses shelf did I realize that only a 100 gram of cheese would have so many different types. Some of them were suitable for cooking. The others were fit into making cakes and cookies. Since it was my first time to cook, I just picked the cheapest one. After half hours’ preparation and two hours’ cooking, the kitchen room was totally as messy as the dump. Fortunately, my cheese cake was well-cooked and did not have any scorches. I went to the living room and shared my cake with my parents and sisters. To my astonishment, the sweet smile on their face showed me how delicious the dessert was. We all enjoyed in this happy moment and the most importantly, I was moved, touched and gained lots of confidence in cooking. Now, whenever I am in a good mood, I will walk to the bookshop to update my cooking experience.

    Waking up in the morning, preparing to go to school. Put my shoes on and turning on my I-pod. Walking out the front door, choosing the song I heard most recently. I can feel the wind is warm and I know the summer is coming, walking into convenience store and people’s chatting makes me push the button to raise the sound of my MP3. Quickly I chose the sandwich and drink for breakfast then turn to the counter, after paying the money, I repeat the same song over and over again. When I get into the class, I turn down the voice and change the song.

    My hobbies
    When I had a bad mood, listening to the music is the best way to resolve my emotion. Some people say, good music will change the whole life. I totally agree with it. Sometimes I met problems in my life. I’ll try to listening kinds of different music. Jazz, pop, rock or blue, different melody has different feeling. Sometimes I had an argument with others, I choose to go to my room and turn the radio to the loudest. Relies on music, I can resolve bed feeling and even choose to yield out to express my anger. Last summer, I broken with my boyfriend, I always listening the same song in every day. Music has become the important part in my life and I really can’t live in a world without music.

    Everyone must have many knids of hobbies. But how to keep hobbies and maintain them forever is a difficult problem.
    One of my hobby is to go to the theater. When I was in senior high, I joined drama club so that I was interested in drama. After graduating from senior, I had little opportunities to play. Because of this reason, I began to go to the theater to see drama performance. Every month I would search Internet to look for drama perfprmance. If the price is not too expensive and I am also interested in that performance, I will go to see.
    Having a hobby is not difficult, but how to keep it and maintain it forever is really difficult. Moreover, having a hobby not only can release pressure, but also can enhance our equality of living. Just do it !
