Fitness Craze

In his essay “Sweatin’ for Nothin’” Barlow claims that ” exercise mania has crippled our culture” in that Americans exercise  producing nothing but wasting energy. The solution is to help them get exercise the natural way, which is to benefit themselves as well as others. Do you agree with Barlow’s argument in terms of fitness craze? Is it that  this exercise craze gets us nowhere? Why or why not?

One report from Time Magazine mentions that exercise won’t make people thin. You may read the article, “Why exercise won’t make us thin?” Do you enjoy exercise? What kind of exercise do you usually take? What do you think the purpose of exercise?

    Actually, I do not like exercrise. Because exercrise will waste time and sweat. But in order to let my health be more stronger it is necessary for me to do exercrise whether I like or not. I often go jogging on the weekends. In my opinion, I think the purpose of exercrise as I mentiond ” Exercrise benefits our health so that we can live longer.”

  2. I don’t like exercise. We know that school must have P.E. class because we study and learn by our brain all the time and our body must have to move to relax. School claims that exercise will do us good; however, does the school ever think about those who don’t like to play sports? When I was a young student, the class I hate most was P.E. class. The feeling of playing sports on burning summer and chill winter days was not good. Besides, the most important reason was I had no talent on this aspect. But when I get older, I find the benefit of exercise. The purpose of it is relax me from stress, let me from being fat, and keeps me from disease. Why I don’t have these thinking before? Now I enjoy the time of exercise. Jogging in the park or riding a bicycle in a path is the thing I like to do now. Exercise is good.

    I disagreed with Barlow’s argument that exercise craze gets us nowhere. Fitness center provided those who needed privacy such as actor. Their fans would go crazy if they found their idol go jogging at the park which would cause unimaginable problem to the public. Also, another benefit of exercise in fitness center was that you did not need to worry bout the weather anymore. The cold and raining weather would reduce one’s desire to go outside but fitness center solved this problem. When referring to exercise, most people would think of losing weight. However, I went jogging almost every weekend just for releasing my tension and easing off my stomachache. It worked very well since I was a senior high school student. Jogging became one of my weekly routine and it would be beneficial to me forever.

    I like exercise but I don’t like PE class in school. Teacher always fource us to do the sports which we don’t like.For example, teacher teaches us how to play vollyball. I hate to play it. It always makes my hands in purple.In contrast, I like dancing. It makes me fun and makes my body strong. My muscle become to be healthy. As for why exercise won’t make us thin according to your habit. If you like to eat garbage food like hamburger or drink coke, it will make you fatter quickly after you exercise. The purpose of exercise is for fun.

    I like exercises. Exercise could be good on people physically and also body. Let your muscle more be stronger, and your heart recycles more be great. Anyway, most of college students don’t like exercises. And their sports ability is last one around the Asia. I believe this is a big problem. Some people think sports not important; they ask their children be good at on work. And our 3c goods so interesting and cheaper, therefore, most of students likes play video games, not go out.

    I do not agree with Barlow’s argument in terms of fitness craze. Some certain fitness machines are training our certain part of muscle. Like this situation, to use the fitness machine is the best and the fastest way to obtain our goal. It isn’t that this exercise craze gets us nowhere; because our body become healthy then we can go anywhere we want to go. I enjoy exercise very much, I love exercise. I usually take stairs and run in daily life. I think the purpose of exercise is to make me become healthy.

  7. I like exercise but I don’t like fitness center. I always consider that exercise needed to be happened under a normal situation. just like you go for a walk to your office or ride bicycle to get your home. I didn,t agree with some people spend lots of money to attend the exercise class. Maybe sometimes we don,t have enough time to raise an regular habbit in exercise but I stll consider that we can do some types of easy exercises to maintain our body shape. We even can choose our interest to raise a exercise habbit, just like some people like hiking or some people enjoy dancing. Just like me., Although I don,t raise a habbit in doing exercise in a regular time but I do my part-time jobs and I always do some actions to let my body move, like downstairs and upstairs.

    Actually I don’t like do exercise very much. The reason is very simple, because most exercise to me are not interesting. However, according to doctor’s advice; do exercises can make our body keep healthy, so I push myself do exercise sometimes. Another reason urge me to do exercise is it can help me lose weight. Walking on the streets or parks in nowadays, I usually see many people jogging on road. On the other hand, some of my neighbored join a fitness centers, they almost go to there everyday or every two days. As the author’s opinion, do exercises just like a fashion. It’s become more and more popular. But I think the positive effects are more than the negatives.

    I agree with the author’s point. For me, the fitness center is just a place for people to show off their higher social identity. Do you really need a treadmill to jog? You can go jogging around your nearby park. Do you really need some special equipment to strengthen your muscle? You can do the push-ups and the sit-ups instead. As you can see exercises don’t need to pay a lot of money. Let the people who need some privacy to use the fitness center. Actually, I’m not that kind of person who likes to exercise. I’ll do some push-ups and sit-ups whenever I feel the urge to do these. These two exercises are the basic ones for everyone. Exercises are for everyone’s health not for show off.

  10. I disagree with Barlow’s argument because fitness club provide people who want to relax exercising in a comfortable condition. In fitness club, people can choose variable equipment they want to use and don’t need to limit by the weather outside. Also, they don’t need to mind the eyesight of others.
    I don’t like to exercise although sweating is good to me. I think sweating is a little disgusting because it is uncomfortable. I think the purpose of exercising is not only reduce the weights, make us healthy, but also release pressures.

    There are two reasons I disagree with the author’s argument. First, fitness center can provide a comfortable place to relax for those who wants to need privacy. Second, we can exercise indoors even though the weather is bad outside.
    Actually, I don’t like to exercise because I always get hurt while exercising every time. Also, sweating after exercises make me feel uncomfortable. I think the purpose of excise is make us more healthy.

    I agree the author’s argument. He pointed out the most of people’s common failings. Most people get in to some mania easily. In my opinion, exsercise is not a mania, it is a way to make your body healthier and relax your mentality. I like to exercise. It makes me release my pressures, let me feel comfortable after do exercise. Doing exercise can be anywhere, anytime, it not just only happen in the gymnasium but also a prevalence to let people chase. Exercise is good, but not make people think exercise in the air-conditoned place is a fashionable thing.

    I don’t have any idea for Barlow’s argument because it’s his opinion and his reason is also reasonable. But for me I really like exercises. I always look forward to going to PE class from the period of elementary to senior high school period. The reason why is that PE class is a few lesson that student have a class to go outside. It also can make student to relax and just have fun together. It doesn’t let us have some pressure. I think that because of this reason I like exercises more. I like swimming, basketball, tennis, badminton and so on. The purpose of exercise for me is that it can express your feeling and pressure.

  14. Yes, i can’t agree more. Because affect by the media on television and commercials. These ads always courage people to lose weight and keep diet. And give the wrong information “Thin is beauty”. It makes me sick. You see many skinny girl walk on the street and their only hope is wore a pretty clothes. I know they in order to control their weight, they can’t eat enough and needless to say full. I feel sorry for them because some stupid businessman makes these happen. Hope the people will realize it and stop it.

    Although I like to take exercise, I seldom do it. One word can describe my attitude to the exercise is, lazy. Before entering the college, I have the PE class twice a week. That means school would force me to take exercise. But now, I rarely have chance take exercise except I do it voluntarily. Perhaps, I take the exercise is considered by my physical condition. If the weather is steaming hot, I would like to go swimming. If my body is stiff, I might choose to do Pilates to release my pressure. What’s more, I take exercise for the sack of losing weight. At this moment, fitness center might be a good place for me to lose weight. However, is it necessary for me to spend time and money going fitness center just for have a good body shape? I think the answer is no. Those people who go to fitness center would say that they don’t have place and time to take exercise, so they would choose to go to fitness center. Nevertheless, I believe the person have willing to take exercise, there are so many natural place such as park, school, public gym, and so on. We take exercise is not forcible, but do it in an appropriate so that can keep our body shapes and health.

    I used to play volleyball when I was in junior and senior high schoo. l loved to play volleyball especially with my classmates. Playing volleyball is not like jogging. You can go jogging by yourself and it can enhance one’s physique and endurance. But if you play volleyball by yourself, it will be little borning. For me, playing volleyball is not just for fun:moreover, I can learn how to cooperate with my teammates and interact with them.
