A Memorable Place

The article “countdown” we discussed this week describes the author’s car-travel experience in twelve hours, from joyfulness leaving his uncle’s house to loneliness his own home. We as readers have seen what the writer sees along the journey as well as his emotions and moods. Good description relies mostly on the use of sensory language to evoke our five senses of sight, touch, taste, smell, and sound.

The journal entry for this week is to discuss your impression of ONE place you have been that are different from those you are used to and the qualities of that place most impress you.

The place that impress me the most is the bathroom in the capmsite of the freshman camping last year. I know the bathrooms in the camsites like last year won’t be as comfortable as the bathrooms at home. However, the bathrooms in the campsite last year are really terrible. We don’t have any shelters to put our towels or clothe. Also it’s pretty messy inside. What’s more there is a spider web on the top of the bathroom.
I guess this is the most horrible bathroom in my life.

  7. I was born in Miaoli(苗栗) and lived with my grandparents until 7 years old. Every morning, as the sunlight sprinkled into my bed, the warm atmosphere filled the whole room. Suddenly, the rooster’s crow totally woke me. Once the leader started to crow, the rest of the roosters would follow one by one that was really annoyed me. Unlike the roosters, while I stepped outside to embrace the warm sunshine, several songs were played by numerous sparrows elegantly standing on the wire pole. It was a symphony chorus, different singers brought together to form a perfect chord. Right in front of me, there were an abundance of rice fields all of which was as immense as a basketball court. With the smooth wind blowing across the golden spike of rice, it was like a green woolen blanket and I was eager to jump onto it, immerse myself in the nature. A tremendous rumble broke the silence. In the meanwhile, a white Taiwan High Speed Rail came across near my grandparent’s house which aroused a tremendous noise along with a whirlwind carrying clouds of dust swept across the reign. I was shocked when I first saw the Taiwan High Speed Rail in such a close distance; it was so speedily that it only lasted about 10 seconds. As my grandmother heard the huge noise and quickly run out to catch the Taiwan High Speed Rail, it was already passed away only with the huge noise echoed across the mountains. Miaoli was a place where I could touch the nature’s beauty and enjoy the carefree life that I had never experience in Taipei.

  8. The most memorable place for me is my junior high school, SHU LIN. The place is filled with my tracks and memory. I remember that my classmates and I chatted or read newspaper in class and teacher told us that we should be quiet and pay our attention. Out of class, we would keep chatting or went to toilet together. I also remember the hard period we studied together from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at school in order to test for a good university. We regarded SHU LIN Junior High School as our home. I never forget that it was a place where full of laugh, warm, and touching.

  9. I lived with my grandparents before I went to elementary school. I learned how to walking, speaking, riding and planning there, therefore my grandparents’ home was not only a memorable place, but also a meaningful place to me.

My grandparents’ home was located in a secluded and silence countryside. There are several advantages here. First, you can ride the bicycle anywhere and don’t have to concern about there would be many cars on the road. For this reason, I could ride bicycle when I was three years old because I could practicing anywhere. Another, I learned planning vegetable and fruit. I thought it would be a special experience to those who live in city. And still another, there air was really fresh. I guess that made me had a healthy trachea.

A memorable place can affect a person a lot, and my grandparents’ home did.

  10. The memorable place is the Green Island. I have been to there with my friends two years ago. That is my first time to go to the distant place. As arriving there, there is a wide ocean surrounding the island. I find people who lives there are very passionate. For example, when we lived in B&B, he treated us sashimi for free. To my surprise, there is no streetlamp on the mountain contrast to Taipei because the authority protects the island from light pollution. Next day, I went snorkeling where I saw the amazing world under the sea. There are many creatures which cannot see in Taipei. One day I will go there and live for a long time, I want to experience their way of life.

  11. I was been living in Chung Hu for 20 years. There are many stores around my house so I can easy get something like food or artiles for daily use. It only takes me 5 minutes to get something, it really convenient for us who living here. Besides convenient to purchase merchindise, it is also convenient to go anywhere I want to go. Since there are a lot people lived there, it become a place whith a lot of schools. I love where I live.

  12. A memorable place for me is aunt’s home in Vancouver and I’ve been there twice since I was in junior high. In the beginning, I resisted owing to afraid of going strange environment by myself but finally I admitted by parents’ encouragement. First day, as I arrived in Vancouver and stepped into home, I felt so warm by my cousins’ welcome. There was a big yard in the front of their house. I like that so much and spent a lot of time playing ball and walking the dog because house with beautiful yard and was my imaginary one. The house was so big with two three stores. I had my own room in second floor for that summer vacation. Decoration in the house seemed very luxurious and splendid. The memorable place to me is Guam and I went to there with my family when I was an elementary student. That is my first time to go abroad, and I felt everything is fresh. Guam is always summer in a year, so it’s always good weather with a big sunshine, and the ocean around the island, so that’s why the beach activities are necessary. I had many activities there, including banana boating, jet skiing, motor boating, parasailing; all these activities were fun and let me excited! The most impressive activity to me is parasail; it really got me scary, because the parasail flied in the sky, and it moved by ship navigated with a line between the ship and the parasail, and we almost had no any seat belt on our set, even we wore life jackets, but it’s possible to full down. However, I like Guam where has good weather all seasons, and the place full of happy memories with my family, I won’t forget here, and I hope I can go to there with my family, my friends or my boyfriend in the future to create new memories.

The most memorable place for me is Milan. In this city, every building is so delicate and elegant. When I walked on the street in Milan, I can sniffed the aroma of coffee from old coffee shops. Besides coffee shops, boutiques on the avenues of Milan are very attractive. Those clothes and shoes which in the boutiques were so amazing, each one of them just like art works! Almost everything are so pretty in Milan. This city successfully catches people’s eyes and impresses tourists. I like the city so much.

I really liked that time. we could enjoy the wonderful morning and shared our feeling. I believed that it was also feature in ourclass.

  16. The most memorable place is my parents’ stall where was placed beside Shinlin night market, near the Shinlin elementary school, and in front of changhwa bank. The stall is a small, simple, but full of friendliness. The scene in summer and fall impressed me the most. In summer, the burning hot let customer take a shower in sweat. Every one hides in the arcade and enjoy the slight air condition when the bank’s automatic valve opens. Owing to the food stand is in the arcade, so it is bitter cold attack those customer who is desire to eat my parents’ food in winter. Even though the cold wind let customers can not enough, they still content to have the food here by the hot steam come from boiler and a bowl of hot soup. In here, I got many kinds of memories. Now, I grown up, and my parents also rent a store instead of a stall. Despite moved to the new place which can cover the blazing sun and bone-chilling wind, I still remember the original stall.

In 2009, spring vacation, my friends and I took a tirp to Nan Jung where is in Miaoli. It’s my first time to go there. Nan Juang is a small village. There houses look antique. The scene there is beautifuo. You can see the mountains stand erectly behind the houses. At night, you can see lots of lighting bugs in the clump. When you were hungry, you can go to the Nanzhuang Street to taste their local food, Hakka style Fried. In Nan Juang, I was impressed by their flowers, osmanthus. This beautiful scene comodities for people to linger on. Nan Juang is my most memorable place. If I have the chance during this spring vacation, I will go there again.

  18. My Memorable Place
The place that recalls me the most is in my apartment in Tennessee, United States. I know the apartment in the campus will not be as comfortable as my hometown, Taiwan. I am alike a host of this place to make my friends chill with me comfortably.
The reason why I feel like more home is because the place I have been living for three years in since first day I arrived. There is nothing in the apartment except the oven and the refrigerator. So I organized my own apartment and made it feel like my second home in the States. Sometimes my friends will gather together at my place on weekends,. The living room is where we hang out.
The surrounding of my living room has two wood shelves on the two side of wall. The middle area of the wall is where I put the television at and my comfortable carpet for me sitting on the floor. And the same area also is where my sofa. This living room also creates a place for me to spend time with myself. I spent a lot of time in here while I am home. The meaning of this memorable place for me is not just making me more feel like a home or comfortable, but it also gives me company to learn how to be more independent.
To me, the dream of home has a private place maybe a room where I can go to just relax for my own personal relaxation needs and focus on myself, so that I could get away from the hustle of the world for a little while. During the spare time I would like to invite my friends and have my family members come around. Simple means happiness for offering a kind of feeling make me pleased.
