A process paragraph is usually divided into separate stages or steps. You list or explain the steps in chronological, or time order. Special time words or phrases (first, next, then, the last step) allow you to tell the reader when a particular step occurs. The process paragraph ends with a specific result — something that happens at the end of the process. The sample paragraph is as follows.
The process for applying to an American graduate school can be painless if you following the following steps. The first step is to take standardized tests such as TOEFL, GRE or GMAT. Most schools require you to take at least one English proficiency test. Be sure to do so early. Actually, the higher the score, the better school you attend. Next, choose several schools that you are interested in attending. Write to these schools to ask for information, catalogs, and applications. You may also want to visit the schools’ websites. After you have researched several schools, narrow your list to three to five. Then mail all the required forms and documents, which could be online forms, only to your final list of three to five schools. In addition, ask various school officials and teachers to write letters of recommendation for you as most universities require them. Finally, the schools have an application fee. This should be sent in the form of a check or money order. If you apply online, fees could be paid by credit card. One last piece of advice is to start early because thousands of undergraduate students are all applying at the same time.
