“We are lucky not to live in a Christian country,” said my pastor as he spoke of Christian history in Middle Ages this week’s Sunday service. I was surprised by what he said at first and then I realized persecution sometimes did come from God’s people. Let’s take Jesus as an example. He was betrayed by Judas, one of his disciples and close friends and was nailed to the cross by his own people, the Jews. The apostle Paul used to persecute Christians before he came to Christ and he assumed that he was doing God’s work.
In modern England, reported by World Magazine, a Christian worker was suspensed of his job for answering his female colleague about his faith. He received a formal notice of suspension for “gross misconduct against the organization’s Culture and Diversity Code of Conduct.” This Christian worked for the English Churches Housing Group, a Christian charity for homeless people. How could this happen to a Christian and his Christian organization?
Persecution always comes from our inner circles. our family members and our friends and our society. Let us keep alert, watch and pray.
