When Vocation Meets Profession

As the graduation season approaches, more and more college graduates are gearing up for their future, entering either the job market directly or graduate school instead. Due to recent economic downturn at home and abroad, new graduates would be likely to spend more time looking for their ideal jobs. Some of them might be wondering what they will do in the future, for the next 20 or 30 years. “What is my vocation?” What is my professional skills?”

“Vocation” comes from the word “voice” which takes root deeply in a person’s heart. Vocation will and should the calling from God the Creator. The word “profession” is to profess, announce, and proclaim what you know or believe.

Whatever a Christian chooses to work in his or her career, he or she must listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit and follow God’s calling. When Jesus came to earth, He spent each day seeking God’ s will and to fulfill it. Besides following His calling, Christians should proclaim the Good News, the news of God’s salvation for the world as their profession.

If you are not sure what your vocation or profession will be, seek God first. He is your Boss and is glad to reveal his wonderful plan for you.
