What’s in a Name?

With the approaching of the Beijing Olympics, more newborn babies in China will be named “Aoyun” (奧運) or “Olympic Games” in celebration of China’s first-ever Olympic Games. The Chinese state media reported that the name “Aoyun” has been registered for more than 4,000 times so far.

One of Jesus’s followers Peter used to be called Simon, but as Jesus met Simon, he said to him, “You are Peter which means ‘rock’, and upon this rock I will build my my church and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.” (Matthew 16:18). The name Peter or “rock” is the foundation on which a Christian’s life or ministry should be based.

As a follower of Jesus, he or she should have a new name or identity defined by Jesus Christ. This name carries out a new mission assigned to each one according to God’s grace. Let’s behave in accordance with our new identity.

WORDPRESS says that our two blogs (at least our most recent posts) are related, so I came by to check you out. Please stop by my blog and let me know what you think (and if you like it, maybe add Jesus + Compassion to your blog roll so we can stay connected).

    God bless you!
