In commemorating the May Fourth Movement many local scholars and teachers called on the government to strengthen the education of the Chinese language. They demanded that the teaching of Chinese classics, particularly Confucian classics, should account for more than 55 percent of the Chinese lessons. They also claimed that the teaching of Chinese classics helps in moral teaching, which is to teach students to discern what is right and wrong.
Noah Webster, author of An American Dictionary of the English language, said, “Education is useless without the Bible.” The purpose of education should help students know the truth. Once the students know the truth they won’t be bound by any kind of human belief system. Ultimately, they will be set free and do not follow suit.
