How could a person be made valuable and marketable in a globally competitive market? The answer is a good command of at least one foreign language. According to a survey result, foreign language ability was the skill most office workers needed to meet job requirements. Another survey also showed that an office worker was often asked to make overseas trips or be posted abroad. And if you have good foreign language skills, you make yourself more marketable.
It can be applied to a Christian as he or she studies a foreign language. The mastery of a foreign language does not make you more acceptable or valuable in the sight of the Lord, but if God’s calling for you is to share the Gospel in a foreign land, you won’t panic because you know the language. In Matthew 20:28 Jesus commanded his followers to go to all peoples everywhere and to make them his disciples. If we know Japanese, we are better to serve Japanese people.
Let’s be ready to learn a foreign language and serve his people as well.
