The Mountain Of God

On Mt. Moriah Abraham would sacrifice his only son Isaac who was born in his old age, but God provided a ram as a burnt offering. For Abraham it was a huge leap of faith to take as he trusted in God and placed his son on the altar. The faith of Abraham therefore was lifted up tremendously after experiencing God’s provision. On Mt. Sinai Moses spent forty days and forty nights staying with God face to face. Later Moses came down from the mountain with his face radiant. His face had to be covered with a veil because the glory of God was reflecting through him. Both Abraham and Moses had special encountering with God on the mountain, and their lives were changed.

Isaiah the prophet said, “On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined” (Isaiah 25:6). Abraham saw God’s provision “on the mountain”; Moses also received divine food more than thirty days from God alone “on the mountain”. Obviously on the mountain of God the Lord has prepared a wonderful feast, a heart meal for all the people of the world. We all are invited to the banquet as long as we go to that mountain, and God promises that we’ll be fed to our heart’s content.

Where is the mountain of God on which we could enjoy his feast? The mountain could be a real mountain or any place where we could spend time alone with God. The bottom line is that God encourages us to temporarily leave the world behind to eat and drink with him. He knows nothing from this world can really satisfy our hunger and thirst? Are you ready to go to the mountain of God?
