School uniforms are required of secondary school students in my country. Some students argue against the uniforms they wear that are old fashioned and stifle their freedom of individuality and creativity. Some contend that school uniforms will help to instill discipline in students, to prevent peer pressure, and to concentrate on school work, and to differentiate students from strangers. However the dress code is established in each school. Proper dress in public places not merely reveals a person how he/she views himself/herself, but how he/she would like someone to observe himself/herself.
As followers of Christ, what do you put on and how do dress properly in order to radiate the light of God? Do Christians have a dress code? Here I am speaking of what real clothes we wear or how we style ourselves. What I really want to touch on is how we clothe us spiritually. In Romans 13:14, Paul encouraged his fellow Christians to be dressed in Christ. How do Christians clothe themselves in Christ Jesus? “Make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires,” said Paul as he considered the evil and dark deeds as dirty clothes and should be thrown away. “Participating in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarreling and jealousy” (v. 13) is to satisfy one’s evil desires. Those activities a person joins in are regarded as improper clothes in the sight of God.
As Christ lived on this earth, he resisted every temptation from human nature as well as from the Devil. He allowed no sin to enter his soul, mind, and spirit. All he did was to please God but not to gratify his own desires. He came to fulfill God’s will instead of accomplish his dream. To clothe oneself in Christ is to think what Christ would think and to act what Christ would act.
