Every day Jack, a blind and sophomore college student, takes Bus 251 to his university in downtown Taipei. Because of blindness, he needs someone to keep him company at the bus stop after school and to show him when Bus 251 arrives. One day after class as usual he walked to the bus stop with his stick and waited for the bus. But perhaps in the off-peak hour of the day no one was near the bus stop or the sidewalk Jack was alone and became anxious and then decided to pray to God, “Who will keep me company waiting for the bus?” Around one minute later a man approached him and asked, “Are you waiting for Bus 251?” Jack thought to himself, “How does this man know that I’m going to ride Bus 251?” Thus, Jack answered the man, “Who are you?” “I am a bus driver,” replied the man. To his surprise Jack thanked the bus driver heartily and told him where he would get off the bus. (Read Jack’s testimony)
Jehoshaphat king of Judah also found comfort by praying to God for help as his enemies were marching against him. “Messengers came and told Jehoshaphat, “A vast army from Edom is marching against you from beyond the Dead Sea. . . . Alarmed Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah” (2 Chronicles 20:2-4). The first response to the attack Jehoshaphat didn’t summoned all his military leaders and advisors to create a strategic plan on defending his country. Instead he humbled himself before God and sought his guidance.
Out of intimidation Jehoshaphat resolved to seek the Lord (v. 3). What are we going to do as we are terrified or face desperate conditions? Typically we seek comfort and guidance from our parents and best friends on whom can be relied. But like Jack we can pray to God first and ask for help. He hears our prayers and is ready to deliver.
