An unexpectedly massive landslide occurring on last Sunday afternoon took the lives of four or more people as their vehicles passed the Qidu section of the Freeway No. 3 in northern Taiwan according to the local media. Some official from the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Central Geological Survey attributed the landslide to the failure of rock anchors that restrain walls along the highways. Yet, the cause of the landslide is still under investigation.

Natural disasters have occurred such as earthquakes, heavy snowstorms, volcanoes or droughts around the global over the past few months. Scientists from related fields are grappling with such tragedies and trying their hands at identifying the real reasons of them. Are they caused by human factors or something else?

When Solomon completed building the temple of God and his royal palace, God appeared to him one night and confirmed the projects he had done. In 2 Chronicles 7 God responded to Solomon:
When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (vv. 13-14)
Whatever drought, yield loss, epidemics or anything considered natural disasters take place in you land God will remove the disasters and restore the land if his people humble themselves, praying, seeking the presence of the Lord, turning from their wicked way. It is necessary to investigate the cause of any incident and avoid the same tragedy, but the key to restoring the land where we live is to pray, seek God’s presence and examine our hearts to see if there is anything against him as well as turn our backs from evil ways.
