This world has its own way of dealing with that which it requires. Politically a democratic system is favored so that the leaders of such democratic countries will push very hard to win the hearts of their citizens. The power of leader comes from endowment of the public; that is, the ruling authority is derives from the result of an election. As a consequence whatever a leader is doing is to please his supporters to win the next election.
But it is not true of the kingdom of God or the nation God will establish. God has its own way to handle his affairs. As Solomon became the new leader of Israel, the Bible says he sat on the throne of God (1 Chronicles 29:23). The throne is God’s, not the throne of Solomon, David his people, or even the people of Israel. Solomon’s power or authority therefore came from God above. He should give account to the Lord as one day he steps down. David knew that clearly so he prayer for Solomon that he would have the wholehearted desire to obey all God’s commands, laws, and decrees, as well as to live by his directions and council. David wanted his son to remember whom he would serve.
Who are we to serve or to please as followers of Christ? In school we are teaching students people or interpersonal skills in order that they can enjoy good relationships with friends and teachers. What about God skills? Do we care more God than men? Or Do you eagerly seek to impress people than win God’s delight?
