“And they were to stand every morning, thanking and praising the Lord, and likewise at evening, . .” (1 Chronicles 23:30).
When King David became old, he had his son Solomon succeed him as king over Israel. He also summoned all the leaders of Israel, together with the priests and the Levites and had them appointed to be in charge of various tasks such as ministering worship in the sanctuary, serving as officials and judges, working as temple gatekeepers and praising God with musical instruments (1 Chronicles 23:1-5). David was aware of the authority and power he received from God above so that he made the Levites God had set apart serve in his temple and assist the priests, Aaron’s descendents. Each morning and evening the Levites should stand in the presence of the Lord with praise and thanksgiving, as well as in due time the burnt offerings presented to the Lord.
Do we feel privileged if the President chooses us to work in his administration and serve the country? It is even better and far more honored that we have been chosen by “the King of Kings and Lord of Lords” to serve him and work in his ministry. Like the Levites we are supposed to present our thanksgiving to the Lord day and night because he has high regard for every one of us. “What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?” (Psalms 8:4). Unlike the leaders of this world who choose capable and skillful people to work for him, God chooses his people not because they are intelligent or talented, but because he loves them. He wants them to be part of his kingdom to enjoy his love and blessing.
Would you like to work for the Lord? The priority of serving him is to offer your thanksgiving and praise to him. As long as you keep thanking and praising him, he will complete his wonderful work through you.
