Realizing that he couldn’t build the temple for God due to his shedding too much blood, David instead stockpiled a large number of construction materials for his son David who would be the person God had assigned to build the temple for him. God told David that he would make his son Solomon have rest and peace with all his enemies. Under his dominion the nation would enjoy peace and prosperity. But one thing he had to take notice of was to observe the statutes and ordinances commanded by God through Moses. “Then you will prosper if you are careful to observe the statutes and the rules that the Lord commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Fear not; do not be dismayed” (1 Chronicles 22:13).
God foretold that Solomon, whose name means peace, would enjoy a quiet and peaceful life. Unlike his father David, he fought so many battles and shed too much blood. Solomon could enjoy the fruit of his father’s hardships and troubles, even the building materials for God’s temple had been prepared. He indeed was blessed! However the blessings he received were only worldly and temporary. To obtain the spiritual blessing Solomon ought to observe God’s commands. Be brave and strong as he was charged by his father. Don’t be timid or lose heart and always do the right things that God commanded.
Most of us are living in a peaceful time like Solomon was. We don’t work as hard as our ancestors did. They worked diligently only to make ends meet. The blessings we have inherited from them are so great and wonderful that we barely show our gratitude and thankfulness and even take everything for granted. God once more reminds us to keep his words and his ways. Do not be afraid of doing the right thing! Do not timid when you preach the gospel!
