“What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be imprisoned but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” (Acts 21:13)
Paul once was the person who tenaciously observed Jewish traditions and persecuted the followers of Jesus. He would follow Jesus’ disciples and bring them to court. But one day one the way to Damascus he was struck down by a flash light and blinded for three days. As he regained his sight God showed him through Ananias that he would suffer for the good news of Jesus Christ. From that day on he became a changed man, defending the gospel and even dying for Christ.
As he started his journey to Jerusalem, he was aware that he would be persecuted or put to jail there. Even some prophet came and confirmed through the Holy Spirit that he would be jailed and handed over to the Gentiles. Paul’s friends persuaded him not to go to Jerusalem, but he didn’t budge. He knew his time had come and the will of the Lord would be done in him.
Are we scared of being opposed or even persecuted as we proclaim the gospel? There are still thousands of Christians being persecuted and even dying each day throughout the world? Like Paul they stand up for Christ and die for the sake of his good news.
