In the days when David began to reign in Jerusalem he continued to fight against his surrounding nations. But wherever he went, God made him victorious. David knew the victory came from God alone, so he dedicated the plunders taken from the enemies to God. In Chronicles 18:11 we read, “These also King David dedicated to the Lord, together with the silver and gold that he had carried off from all the nations.” All these things David consecrated to God were used to build the temple of God in the future as Solomon his son succeeded him as the next king.
As God redeemed us from the eternal condemnation through Jesus Christ, most of us didn’t go to heaven directly; rather we still enjoy the life God has given us. But does a Christian life change after a person becomes a follower of Christ? Are we only churchgoers? We go to church without going to God like going to school without doing any studies or going to office without doing any work? David was longing desperately for the presence of God so he prepared the materials needed to build the temple of the Lord. Do we like David dedicate our lives to God and to building his temple?
We are the temple of God. And to commit ourselves to the Lord is to love him with our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Besides, the earthly things we possess are also dedicated to his kingdom. “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33). Whenever the kingdom of God is growing, we are increasing too.
Let’s rededicate ourselves to Him today, for he is mercy and compassionate and ready to bless his children if they honor and exalt him.
