Saving the Lost, Seeking the Lord

The people of Israel lived in the foreign land of Egypt around 430 years since Joseph brought his brother and their households down then and escaped the famine in Canaan. At the end of that period of time the life of the Israelites became bitter and intolerable because a new Egyptian king came to power without the remembrance of Joseph forced them to hard labor. The Israelites began groaning under slavery and cried out for help (Exodus 2:23). God heard their groaning and then had his servant Moses deliver his people from the burden of slavery.

By the same token God chose David as king over Israel in order to save people from the hands of their enemies. In 1 Chronicles 14 when a ruler from another country sent his messengers to David with building materials and workers to build him a palace, David realized that God had confirmed him as king over Israel and blessed his kingdom greatly for the sake of his people. He perceived that God was with him even the ark of God was not with him at that time. So later when the Philistines came to attack David twice, David inquired of the Lord if he would give him the victory over the Philistines. God promised him to “move ahead of him” to strike down his enemy.

Nowadays God still chooses his servants and leaders including you and me to perform his wonderful work. Like Moses and David, we are elected to do his work, not because we excel others in character, skill or ability, but because his mercy and grace that enable us to fulfill his will for the sake of the lost. He doesn’t want anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).

Meanwhile we are chosen to seek God and bring delight to him as well. David was a man after God’s own heart asking God for guidance as he went out for the battle each time. His heart went even further into the presence of the Lord. “This is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord to seek him in his temple” (Psalms 27:4).

Being followers of Christ we should save the lost and seek the Lord as our life mission.
