A friend of mine in his sixties is an elder in his church and serving Christians and non-Christians at home and abroad for many decades. He is always on the go doing God’s work here and there. He didn’t have much time resting in the Lord until he was diagnosed with cancer recently.
In a recent visit to him he shared with me the importance of dwelling in Christ–practicing the presence of God and listening for the voice of the Holy Spirit. He told me when he prayed he used to “report to God”, asking God to do this and do that. He never enjoyed the intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit as he spent time with the Lord. Right now he immerse himself joyfully in prayer, praise, and worship in his daily morning devotion.
Many Christians like my friend have a strong compassion for the lost. They grab every opportunity God has given them to share and preach the gospel. Their hearts burn with God’s passion so that they sometimes become workaholics in the kingdom of God. However, one of the great purposes for God as he has created humankind is to enjoy being with his people.
Have you really talked to God and enjoyed his presence today?
