Waking Up Jesus

Jesus spent three and a half years teaching his disciples about the Kingdom of God. During the period of time he taught by the situations they’re experiencing.

One day Jesus and his disciples were on a boat on the way to the other side of a lake. While Jesus was having a nap, the wind in the lake began to rise. A fierce storm developed that threatened to swamp and drown them. The disciples were greatly in panic though most of them were fishermen. Thus, they woke up Jesus exclaiming, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” (Luke 8:24). Jesus awoke from sleep and rebuked the wind and the raging waves. The storm died down and the sea became calm. Jesus then asked his disciples, “Where is your faith?” (v. 25).

Like the disciples, did we sometimes wake up Jesus because we thought God (Jesus) was sleeping while we’re in real danger? Or Did we hold fast to faith in Jesus? In Psalm 121: 4 we read that he who watches Israel never tires and never sleeps. Yes. The Lord God neither dozes off nor sleeps. We can rest in Him securely.
