On Understanding

One of my younger daughter’s classmates recently passed an exam for gifted education held by another elementary school. Each year many students from the surrounding areas of the school take the exams in order to attend “gifted education classes”. To successfully enter gifted education classes, it is common here in Taiwan that many parents have sent their children to cram schools so that they can practice exam questions repetitiously to gain higher scores on tests. Thus, it is most  likely that the students from gifted education classes are falsely talented students. To make  gifted students  is often to make them practice much and study hard.

There are many Bible verses pointing us to be a wise and understanding person. In Proverbs 9:8 it is written, “Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in understanding.” Wisdom and understanding derive from God alone. Jesus also said in Luke 8:18, “So be sure to pay attention to what you hear. To those who are open to my teaching or words, more understanding will be given.” The more we study his teachings, the more we become wise and understanding (or intelligent).

Want to be smart? Why not pick up the Bible and start reading it and meditate on God’s word? It is the promise that God have given us to be wise and understanding.
