Whom should We Love?

When Jesus was falsely accused and handed over to the Roman government, Pilate, the Roman governor, had him nailed on the cross due to the pressure from Jewish own countrymen including Jewish chief priests, rulers and some people. While the people were standing watching and mocking at Jesus, “He saved others; let him save himself,” Jesus didn’t call down curse from heaven and instead he asked God to forgiven them. “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34).

Jesus has exemplified his teachings for us throughout his life. He commanded us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. In Matthew 6:4645-46, he said, “God causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors (sinners) doing that.”

Love does not come from our emotions and feelings; we love others less because we don’t feel good about them; we love them more because they are great to us. Love indeed arises from God Himself. God is love so we have God’s love and we can love even our enemies.
