Did you ever tell a little white lie to your family, friend or even your boss? Most of us once in while fudge the truth to impress someone or not to hurt someone ‘s feelings. For instance, the soup you cook tastes delicious, but in fact it is too salty or flavorless. According to a poll as to whether it is Okay to tell a little white lie, 47% of the respondents said “Yes” if truth hurts, 23% responded OK if there is no harm or foul, 11% said “Yes” if to avoid conflict, and 19% responded “No”. So 81% of the respondents agreed with telling a little white lie if it is not meant to deceive or hurt someone.
What does the Bible teach about this? “You shall not lie” is one of the Ten Commandments God commanded Moses to give to his people. To protect his people from being led into the temptation of lying, God made this law for his people. In Ephesians 4:15 the apostle Paul said,”Instead, speaking truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. Paul wrote this letter to Christians brothers and sisters in Ephesus to tell them that they were not like Children any more. He explained, “Do not change our minds about what we believe because someone has told us something different or because someone has cleverly lied to us and made the lie sound like the truth.
We tend to be tossed back and forth by the waves of this world’s custom, patters and teachings and we follow the knowledge of falsehood. If we really love a person, we’d better tell the truth indeed.
