New Country, New Life

The other night my wife and I met a Christian family who just returned to Taiwan three months ago. The husband conducted his postdoctoral research in the States for two years. We chatted a bit about their children, whether they could catch up with other children in class and how well they had adapted to life and environment here in Taipei. Thy all missed the life in the States. Asked why they loved the American life, they responded, “Life was simple there.”

Most of the Taiwanese students as they have returned from the States agree with the above point. When they study in American or even work and live there, they seldom participate in social activities. If they do, they only interact with the people who speak the same mother tongue. They care less about American education, political and social issues. If they become Americans, they are definitely Taiwanese Americans.

As a believer, we are able to lead a simple life too, wherever we live. We have become the citizens of kingdom of God since we came to Christ. We have changed our perspectives of what life is. We are still concerned about the life on earth, but much concerned with the things above on which we set our minds.

Remember we are heavenly citizens and we should live a heavenly life.
