“Seeing is believing” is an idiom indicating seeing something rather than hearing about it is the best proof. When it comes to success or achievement, some people tend to exaggerate their words and glorify their deeds. But this idiom seems to be unlikely to suit God’s character and describe who He is. “Believing is seeing”, however, does.
In Luke 1:39-44 Mary visited Elizabeth who was pregnant in her sixth month. At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s baby was leaping with joy and she was filled with the Holy Spirit. Then Elizabeth said to Mary, “You are blessed because you believed that the Lord God would do what he said.” Mary did not see what God would do to her but listened to what He said to her and she believed. In another instance when Jesus was resurrected and appeared to his disciples, Thomas was not with them and he doubted was risen. Later as Jesus appeared to Thomas, he told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who haven’t seen me and believe anyway” (John 20:29).
A Christian is supposed to live in the kingdom of God mentally and spiritually. We no longer see and believe, but believe and see.
