As I walked in the leribrary for book return, I caught a glimpse of a big anti-smoking poster on the door of the entrance gate. The poster features a beautiful TV or movie actress (I guess) dressed in scanty clothing, purposely revealing her belly button and holding a no-smoking slogan. When I gave a second look, I wondered, “How will the way she wears her clothes be related to the anti-smoking campaign?” Is it likely that people, particularly men, pay more attention to her naval than to the slogan in her hands?
In Genesis 9:20-24, one day as Noah was drunk and lay naked in his tent, his youngest son came in and saw his father was naked, and then he told his brothers. Instead of telling other people about their father’s nakedness. they went into the tent and cover their father’s body with a robe. When Noah woke up from his stupor, he learned what his younger son had done to him. Then he cursed him to be the servant of his brothers.
Exploitation of women on TV commercials and magazine or bus advertising is rampant and overwhelming in our society. In terms of this anti-smoking campaign poster, it may resist the temptation of smoking for some people, while for other people it may stir up another temptation of sexual sin.
