Last night as she came home from school my older daughter was pretty excited about the coming of April’s Fool Day. Asked why she loved it, she replied, “I can play jokes on people.”
As I was pondering the word “fool”, what is “fool”? Paul wrote in his letter to the Corinthians, saying, “We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ.” How did Paul do to become a fool for Christ? he said in 1 Corinthians 4:11-13, ” To this very hour, we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless … When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; when we are slandered, we answer kindly … we have become the scum of the earth, the refuse of the world.”
Prior to a true follower of Christ, Paul had been a Roman citizen and religious teacher and even persecuted Christians. He had been trained to be a Jewish leader and enjoyed high social status and power. But now he would sacrifice everything including his wife for Christ. Why did his life change dramatically? The key was Jesus, who transformed Paul’s perspective of life
Are we willing to become fools for Christ today? Are we willing to become crazy for the sake of God? Let’s respond to God’s calling, determining to become fools for God.
