Mr. Lee, a college professor and deputy magistrate, resigned his post after being accused of having an extramarital affair with a female legislator. He of course denied the accusation of his misconduct. On the other hand, Asked about the affair with Mr. Lee, The female legislator admitted having the “improper” friendship with him. She then responded, “I’ll carry the cross.” What she really meant was to shoulder all the blames and accusations.
As Jesus was crucified on the cross at Calvary, he didn’t carry the cross as most people thought all the way to the place where he was nailed. The Roman soldiers had someone carry the cross for Jesus (Matthew 27:32). As Son of God and a sinless man, Jesus did die on the cross for our sins and transgressions. Though he didn’t deserve to die and even die on the cross which was the symbol of shame and humiliation in the Roman Empire, he subjected to God’ will to pay the penalty for all of us. “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
Today, we don’t and can’t carry the cross for others, because we sin against God deserving death. What we can do is take our cross, surrender ourselves and follow Him.
