The Power of Words

In Isaiah 55:10-11, God compares His word to rain or snow which never returns to the sky “without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater”. When God created the universe, He used nothing available except the Word that comes from His mouth. Things came into being as He commanded through His voice.

Man created in the image of God possesses the same power of words that either can build someone up or tear someone down. An encouraging word or a word at the right time is like apples of gold in baskets of silver (Proverbs 25:11), whereas discouraging words sag a person’s spirit or even ruin a life.

Today, let our words be always full of grace, seasoned with salt (Colossians 4:6), both we and others will benefit from what we’ve said.
