Serving God Or Yourself?

“Save me, please! I want to sleep,” my daughter said in a begging voice as I woke up in the middle of the night. I know she was dreaming and what she really wanted was to take a rest. She got up very early that morning, worked on a particular project with her teammates at school during the nap time and came back home late at night. Then we asked her to work on her homework, do the laundry, play the piano, and do this and that. Eventually she didn’t have time to rest awhile.

Some Christians burn out in serving the Lord. Remember that as Jesus’ disciples returned to him, reporting what they had done on their ministry, Jesus said let’s go to a desolate place and rest awhile. Jesus loves us to serve him by serving people around us, but the power of service is from Him, not from us–our selfish ambition or our own strength.
