Samson, one of the judges in Israel’s history, was born to be a Nazirite as the angel of the Lord appeared to his mother foretelling her son would be dedicated to God without drinking wine, beer, or eat or touch anything that would make him ritually unclean. Some time later, Samson noticed a Philistine (his enemy’s) woman outside his hometown and instantly he fell in love with her. He insisted on marrying this Philistine woman whom he wasn’t supposed to take to his wife according to the regulations of being a Nazirite. “”Isn’t there any one you can find a wife among your relatives or among our people! You should not have to go and get a wife from the uncircumcised Philistine.” said his parents, while they didn’t realized that this was the Lord’s doing in order to deliver the people of Israel from the Philistines through Samson.
Every Christian is like Samson dedicated to God as a Nazirite who is strongly advised to follow some dos and don’ts. It is true of course that the children of God should listen to Him and obey his commands, but before we judge or accuse our brothers or sisters of their unorthodox behavior or conducts, let us first put our knees down and pray for them from the bottom of our hearts. Like Samson’s parents, perhaps we don’t know God is at work in them.
