Soldiers’ Valentine

Valentine’s Day happened just two days ago. It is the time when young or old couples use this opportunity to send a box of chocolate or a bouquet of roses in a way to demonstrate their love and affection to one another. As I was serving in the army, each year unofficially the soldiers in the military would pick their “soldiers’ valentine” or ideal woman whom their would like to date or marry, usually the pick coming from TV or movie celebrities. And the top soldiers’ valentines frequently were those who are most sexy and beautiful in appearance. Several years ago I heard the lady who had been selected as one of the soldiers’ favorite valentine for many years during my military service was divorced.

“Charm is deceitful and beautiful is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised” (Proverbs 31:30). What is true beauty and what will be kept eternal? From this verse, we know the woman or man who respects or honor God will receive her or his compliments or be highly respected. In Isaiah 40:7-8, we also read all people are like grass, and all their promises (beauty, fame, riches, or power) are like the flowers in the field. The grass dries up and the flowers wither when the wind sent by the Lord’s blows on them. One thing lasts forever: the decree of the Lord our God.  Then, the prophet Isaiah wrote, “Say to the towns of Judah, “Behold your God’” (v 9)?

Have we beheld our God today, His beauty, glory and majesty?
