A Hard-Hit, Tested Faith

“You are not aware of what kind of Christian you are until you are tested” is a reminder that we Christian should not be too judgmental as our brothers and sisters are in deep trouble or tribulation and you’re trying to comfort them by saying something like “having faith in God” or “rejoicing in the Lord.”

My pastor shared a missionary story on her sermon this morning. A missionary couple was in Africa helping the local people and sharing the gospel. The couple had a lovely daughter who was the apple of her mother. One day, the girl was seriously ill and the nearest hospital to the couple’s house was a two hours’ walking distance. As the girl was sent hurriedly to the hospital, she died in the way. Her mother later got the news about her daughter’s death. She praised God for taking her daughter to heaven instead of other children. Meanwhile, the girl’s father was coming back home from another town as her heard of her daughter’s illness. But he was killed by some bandits on the road. As the wife knew of her husband’s death, he knelt down before the Lord saying, “Lord, please give more grace to live for you.”

My tears kept running down the cheeks as I heard the story. I don’t know if I have the same faith as the wife, but what I do know is God is the God of comfort and compassion. He is the only One I can turn to and on whom I can fix my eyes.
