Birthday Anticipation

“How much time is it to my birthday?” said my younger daughter the night before my birthday as she had been waiting expectantly for all week long.  I answered,”It is only four hours to my birthday.” She and her sister had even planned to keep night watch until the birthday arrived, but they both failed and fell asleep. The following day they did wake up in the wee hours getting a birthday package ready for me.

How are Christians waiting for Christ’s second coming? Are we eagerly looking forward to it or losing our patience and faith gradually in waiting because of His “delay”? Do we get well-prepared for his coming like the ten virgins (Matthew 25:1-13) as we do not know the day or hour of his return?

As I opened the package in the early afternoon, the gifts inside were trifling to me as I had expected, yet I know “the gift is trifling but the sentiment is profound.” On that day, I know what matters is not what I bring to Him, but the joy of what He receives from my heart!
