“Talented students can be cultivated and nurtured,” said Professor Ho, who was invited to speak on the subject of the role of an academic adviser at the counseling meeting in our school today. he stressed in his speech that he was only a normal and average man. But because of three teachers he met in his lifetime, he has become what he is right now -a confident and competent man. They knew his potential, sympathized with him, and helpedhim to move up higher and higer. Professor Ho encouraged teachers to find out about each student’s strength and then develop his or her potential.
“But everyone who prophesies speaks to me for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort” (1 Corinthians 14:3). Here the word “prophesy” means “instruct” or “teach”. So as we teach, we as teachers must positively strengthen students’ mind or intellect, give encouraging words, and comfort those who are dispressed or saddened, but not to weaken or discourage students’ learning desires or even hurt their personality.
A good teacher is not to show how great or knowledgeable he is, but to make himself accessible to students and readily serve.
