Former president Chen Shui-bian has been a controversial figure in Taiwan since he stepped into the political arena. He used to be a hero but now has been a zero since he acknowledged failing fully to declare his campaign funds and wiring a large sum overseas last week. He has championed social justice, but fallen victim to justice. Being called the son of Taiwan, he might become the scoundrel of Taiwan. But are we better than A-ban as we are pointing the finger at him?
As Jesus entered Jericho, a man named Zacchaeus – a very wealthy, chief tax-collector but hated by the Jewish – stood in the street trying to take a look at Jesus. Zacchaeus was so short that he climbed a sycamore tree to get a good vew. As Jesus passed, he looked into the tree and said, “Come down Zacchaeus! I will stay at you house tonight.” Many of the spectators were amazed and grumbled over what Jesus had said. Knowing their hearts, Jesus said, “I came to seek and to save what was lost” (Luke 19:10).
Zacchaeus was a scoundrel, a great sinner in the eys of Jewish people. But Jesus came to make the sinner righteous.
