A couple of days ago, the military came under fire for using dummy soldiers to stand guard at a military base. An opposition legislator asked mockingly if the military would send dummies to fight in wartime. Officials, on the other hand, replied that the use of dummies was part of military tactics in case the enemy took satellite pictures. Another lawmaker from the ruling party suggested that the military should use more realistic dummies if they needed to.
The psalmist said, “Their idols are silver and gold, the work of man’s hands. They have mouths, but they cannot speak; they have eyes, but they cannot see; they have ears, but they cannot hear; they have noses, butt they cannot smell; they have hands, but they cannot feel; they have feet, but they cannot walk; they cannot make a sound with their throat. those who make them or trust in them are like them” (Psalm 115:4-8). No matter how real idols or dummies may look, they stand still immovably.
Let’s ask God to grant us a discerning heart not to be confused or deceived by “dummy guards”, which after all are part of the enemy’s decoy tactics.
