A Night Owl

Are you a night owl? If you are, what do you usually spend your nighttime doing? For most of the people living in cities, what they enjoy most is just about anything they can do from eating at fancy restaurants to dancing at discos. As a day comes to an end, their city life just begins.

What did Jesus do at night? Was he a night owl? In Mark 14:22-26, Jesus and his disciples were celebrating the Passover in the city of Jerusalem. After the Passover meal, they sang hymns and then Jesus took his disciples to the Mount of Olives to pray. Imagining living in Jerusalem though it was not as big as any other modern city like Taipei or New York, the people more or less enjoyed some kind of city life. Yet, Jesus spent much time alone on the mountain staying with the Father and praying to him. Also in some other Bible passages, Jesus got up early, went out of the city to a desert area, and stayed there worshipping and praying to God.

Do we spend our nighttime watching TV, playing on the computer or some other entertainment activities? Jesus has modelled his life for us, worshipping (singing hymns) and praying to God. Let’s commit our night lives to God alone.
