In Leviticus 6:8-13, God commanded Moses to tell Aaron and his sons the priests to sacrifice the burning offering on top of the altar through night until morning. As they carried out the ashes of the burning offering outside the camp, the fire on the altar must be kept burning. Meanwhile, replenish the wood for the fire every morning and keep the fire burning on the altar continuously without going out.
In the Old Testament, only priests had the right to come before God to sacrifice offerings. certain Instructions must be followed precisely regarding various kinds of offerings. Today, we Christians are God’s priests and we come to God with thanksgiving and praise in prayer. As Aaron and his sons were obliged to remove the ashes every morning before adding fresh wood to the fire, we also need to get rid of our unforgivingness and grudges against others and then our prayer may be pleasing and acceptable to God.
Meanwhile, God enjoined Moses that the fire on the alter must never go out. It reminds me of the fire God has placed in our heart at the beginning of the receiving of God’s salvation. Do we keep the fire of God’s love burning and the fire of saving the lost within us? If not, let’s remove the ashes and put new wood on the God’s altar.
