With seven major awards, my class was the biggest winner at the awards ceremony Saturday night in the year of 2008 drama contest. Their play ‘Hairspray’ came away with the most awards, including best script, best director and best actor. My students went from zero to hero as they came home with none last year. Many of my students were wondering why they couldn’t see my happiness, because I should’ve been proud of their outstanding performance.
Of course, I was delighted in what they got and indeed they deserved the most awards, for they had been working on this project since the outset of this semester. In fact, they discussed how to make a better production immediately after losing the last year’s contest. As in the Book of Proverbs, we read that prepare plans by consultation and with many counselors they succeed. And well begun is half done. But what about excitement over the winning of a game or play? There’s nothing wrong with celebrating our victory or crying in defeat. I guress I’m learning what Paul teaches us in 1 Corinthians 7:33-31, “those weeping as not weeping, those rejoicing as not rejoicing, those buying as not owning, those using the world as not using it fully.”
