In recent days, more and more people (especially the underclass) have been feeling the pinch with rising gas and food prices. In a report, the price of wheat has jumped 120 percent and rice prices have risen around 75 percent globally since last year. Several factors have caused skyrocketing food prices, one of which brought up by a U.N. special rapporteur is ethanol production. According to his argument, ethanol comes from corn and the demand for corn instead of some traditional fuels with ethanol has caused farmers to grow corn, pushing world food prices higher.
The Bible says, “Do to others as you want them do to you.” Do we enjoy our luxuries but at the same time sacrifice others’ basic rights of living?
