“I am ready for this marriage. It will help me study better,” said an 11-year-old Muslim boy who would marry his 10-year-old cousin later this year. Ratified by the sharia laws of Islam, this little young couple would live together after the wedding ceremony.
In 2 Corinthians 11:2-3, Paul said to the Christians at the Corinthian Church, “I promised you as a pure bride to one husband, Christ. But I fear that somehow you will be led away from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.” As Christians we have been married to Christ through His covenant of love. We need to be focused and obedient.
I like the boy’s statement: he is ready for this marriage, for it makes him study better. Are we made to see clearer, to walk brighter and to live happier because we have been betrothed to Christ?
